Dallas Morning News Today

Post by shadowman »

Nice article on Gilbert with large color picture is the front page dominating story in the DMN today, pick up a copy if you are in the area.

If not, here is the link:

If you can, however, get a copy, the link does not do justice to how prominently it is the feature story today along with a nice photo.
Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!

Long ago, the DMN ran big photos and SMU features prominently in the sports pages on a regular basis - much like the Star-Telegram promotes their hometown team nowadays. Will be interesting to see how the Morning News treats (or mistreats) SMU basketball as it starts up.

This is one of the best feel good stories of the season. A shocking turnaround that started with a called draw last season. Couldn't happen to a nicer kid.

we don't claim him. too painful. some of the worst years in smu history was his attempt to play qb.

I hope he gets his shot at the NFL and actually gets drafted. He has all the intangibles.

I claim Josh McCown as one of SMU's own. His problem was he was always looking over his shoulder. He was fairly highly recruited out of high school, btw.

Garrett will play at the next level. And I do think he gets drafted.

ponyboy, I hope you're right and he has definitely had a great year so far but he is going to have to make his reads much quicker at the next level and improve his ability to sense the pocket collapsing. No doubt he has the physical tools.

Chuck Hixson is such a great and humble guy I'm almost sad to see him be over run.

He hangs out a Vic Salvino's box all the time at home games. One of the nicest most humble folks you could ever hope to meet. I can promise no one will be pulling harder for GG than he.

Couldn't be happier for Garrett. That kid has been through a lot in the last 5 years. No continuity in the coaching staff at Texas, outrageous expectations, and other factors contributed to his poor play in Austin. For the first handful of games last year I thought we were getting the exact same product. Since then however he's been great. I shudder to think of where this team would be without him this year. Likely we wouldn't have won a single game. With him we might be able to sneak into another bowl game. That alone is a testament to how great he's been this year considering we are 120th in the nation in turnover margin and our defense has been a knife through hot butter all season.
Back off Warchild seriously.

I support all SMU players, coaches and teams, and I always will. But I really want this team to go to a bowl game in part for Garrett Gilbert. What he has done this year has been pretty incredible to watch. There have been a couple of games where we got behind and he basically picked the team up and put it on his back. The guy is talented, smart and tough, and a hell of a leader. I want to see him go out with another bowl ring.
Rise up, Mustang Nation!
