JJ could use some of Patterson's antics and fire and win games...I prefer a fiery coach that gets us 12-0 and top notch recruiting vs. a laid back 7-5 coach any day

Not me. I'd rather have the 7-5 coach.feelthehorsepower wrote:JJ could use some of Patterson's antics and fire and win games...I prefer a fiery coach that gets us 12-0 and top notch recruiting vs. a laid back 7-5 coach any day

While definitely no JJ fan, I am with JJ on this, the truly great coachs are no where near as negative as Patterson. The good coaches with high energy know how to use it in a positive way. Every game, Patterson gets in his player's faces and yells at them in front of everyone in the stadium and on TV, it is a real public specatacle and is the wrong way to go about things. Publically dressing down a player over and over and over gets you noticed and not in a good way.feelthehorsepower wrote:JJ could use some of Patterson's antics and fire and win games...I prefer a fiery coach that gets us 12-0 and top notch recruiting vs. a laid back 7-5 coach any day
He needs to change that aspect of his sideline persona if he wants to have a chance to move into a more high profile job.
Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!

I've always thought that clown-like behavior from otherwise excellent coaches like Patterson and Leach is a bit like "flopping" in basketball. But it's not a good example for building character in young men and it's certainly a poor reflection on the universities.
So personally, I appreciate the June Jones / Tom Landry sideline demeanor. I sit on the 4th row and have heard JJ absolutely shred a ref for a bad call, but you'd never know it on TV. You can get your point across to refs and motivate your players without looking like a fool.

Patterson is a .770 coach...it works, it wins games, it wins championships.shadowman wrote:While definitely no JJ fan, I am with JJ on this, the truly great coachs are no where near as negative as Patterson.
