The next big move is going to be when the Big 12 GOR expires (whenever that is, I forget).

In the meantime, we need to get serious about the stuff we CAN control: getting a coach who cares, making our facilities top-notch (IPF), and hopefully beating some P5 teams while taking care of business in conference play. We need to be having 8,9,10 win seasons and getting 20-25K in Ford for AAC games. I realize this is a lot easier said than done, but we've got to get the ball rolling now. No more Montana States, no more [deleted] Soiree billboards.

Being a small, private school may hurt us to some extent, but we have a lot of positives: deep pocketed boosters, a great metropolitan area in fertile recruiting grounds, and an excellent academic reputation. I refuse to believe the sky is falling, as some on here have alluded to, when it comes to the future of SMU athletics.

And the ACC football powers who wanted Louisville would have had a hard time selling the Tobacco Road academic snobs on taking UL and their subpar academics if not for their stellar basketball program.

Basketball might not get you the job, but having it on your resume might get you a followup interview

Right.

I don't think teams move to the west coast just because of the time zone difference. How many of you stay up and watch those 10pm PAC 12 games on Saturday night? I think Texas should form their own state network of big time programs including NT, SMU, TCU, UT, Houston, TT, Baylor,A@M if they want, UTSAN and TX STate with two divisions and bigtime nonconference matchups against the rest of the country with no cupcakes in the nc schedule. Texas is a growing nation unto itself so who cares about the tv for the rest of the country or the rest of the country's national champions. You win Texas and that will be good enough! We already have the Texas bowls anyway too. So have UT play Alabama, Ohio State and Oregon in nonconference and then get through the regular season and play Notre Dame in the Cotton Bowl! TV $$$ would be there for those matchups. Ags play Florida, LSU, Michigan and then USC or PENN State in the Texas Bowl. It brings back the intra state rivalries and makes everyone stronger and will be beneficial for all sports and the money is there.

Money > Time Zones

I'm sure they could negotiate an understanding where Central Time Zone teams play the earlier games on the West Coast

If TTU, UT, OSU and OU join Pac 12, it will probably gain the largest GOR contract out of any of the college football conferences. There goes Texas submitting itself to California, when the money is supposed to be flowing this way and not towards California...

The TV markets in that conference footprint would be absurd:

LA
San Diego
San Fran/Oakland/San Jose/Sacramento
Portland
Seattle/Tacoma
Denver
Salt Lake City
Phoenix
Dallas/Ft. Worth
Houston
San Antonio
Austin
OKC
I'm sure I forgot some

The money would be flowing every which way

Expansion threads mean another kitten died today. Having said that, I think SMU's best hope would come from out west. The B1G is not expanding. The PAC 12 would like to get into the Texas market. With Baylor, TCU, Tech and UT tied up for the next 8 years, SMU and UH are possible teams for them. The problem is UH's academics would bother the pointy headed admins in the Big 12. SMU would fit in nicely with Stanford, USC, and Cal. There are no other midwest time zone schools to join them. They could look at the Mtn and try and add AFA. None of the Cal State teams would get in due to UCLA veto. BYU still is out there as well. If we went east, then our sole hope is the ACC and i don't see that happening. Having added Pitt, Louisville, and Syracuse, they probably won't expand further unless they decide to go public/private divisions in football. Private: U, Syracuse, BC, Wake, Duke, UVA, (its public, but not like most state schools), with room for two more. Say, SMU and Tulane.
Public: VT, FSU, GT, Clemson, NCSU, Louisville, Pitt, with room for one more say UH or UConn.
Championship game between Public vs. Private (gives champion a better shot of getting to a BCS game). As far as the Big 12, I agree that after the GOR expires, its going to be every team for itself, same with the ACC for that matter.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

I think the Pac-12 would wait eight years for Texas, OU, Tech, and OSU before taking us and Houston. We would be a longshot not only because of our small fanbase, but I can't imagine that the perception of us as a conservative institution with the George Bush Library would fly up in Berkeley and Eugene. Houston's academics are a joke, they would similarly be scoffed at but for different reasons. BYU is sure as hell not getting in because of their ties to the Mormon church, and I'd think the Pac might be hesitant to take a service academy as well.

Texas and OU are the big prizes, and Tech and OSU will get to play tag-a-long with them

New PonyFan Sets Sites on Prestigious Award

University Park, Texas

He may be a newcomer, but FTHP is certainly coming on real strong at the end of the year for the "[deleted] Crazy PonyFan on the Year" Award.

Despite having only joined perpetual cycle of rehashed topics that is Ponyfans only a month ago, he's already made the JV team and is making gains daily with lots of ridiculous thread topics. His most active topic, a thread he started titled, "Gerald Ford needs to be renovated" would end up going on for 9 pages and involved 12 of his own posts. Regardless of the fact that neither Gerald Ford himself, nor the stadium that is named after him ever get truly filled, FTHP was steadfast in his convictions that the thread, should indeed, be started anyway.

When asked about his meteoric rise in such a short time, FTHP stated "I've seen the way Cougar King has trolled PonyFans for the past year and figured, why can't I do that? I decided to take the SMU perspective and just hit the ground running".

FellTheHorsePower has certainly been on a roll lately with other topics concerning SMU getting into the Big XII, going to BCS games, Coach June Jones hat selection, something about fearing a horse, as well as Coach Jones being just as big a troll as himself.

It has certainly been an "exciting" time on the boards, and it doesn't look as though it's going to slow down anytime soon.

"My goal is to be a PonyFans Super Legend within the next year" said FTHP. "I know it's going to take a lot of trolling and ridiculous threads, but I'm confident that I have nothing better to do in the meantime".

When fellow active PonyFan malonish was asked about FTHP, he responded "CAGE FIGHT TO THE DEATH BIITCH!!!"

We might not know who the next coach of the SMU football team will be yet, but we can be sure that FTHP will do whatever it takes to make sure that Nick Sabam, Les Miles, David Shaw, Jimbo Fisher and Urban Meyer will all be considered candidates here at PonyFans.
