Damn! Hey Gerald Ford, can we get one of those?

Seriously though, this is yet another thing holding us back from the middle-tier B12 teams we need to compete for recruits with to be successful moving forward. A sick IPF with a track on the current soccer field would be awesome.

but, but, but RGT wants better books for the students and more tenured professors. Besides, not to worry, we have one of those in our masterplan- currently scheduled for 2089.

We need to focus on what's really at stake...prioritizing on Academics sounds like a good idea, but without Football Revenue, especially in Texas, we will find it hard to compete.

RGT has his priorities right. If anyone wants to donate a new whatever to the athletic department, but the whole point is to have the best school possible.

Imagining that Turner would defer a IPF makes no sense. He would build anything ASAP, if somebody(ies) want to write the check(s).

And, our rising academic reputation is a plus for fund raising of all kinds, recruiting and accelerating the Master Facilities Plan. Believe me, if someone gave a lead gift for the New Natatorium, Turner would break ground in the Spring, just as he would for an Indoor Multi-Purpose facility to support FB, T&F and student recreation.

Forget the conspiracy theories, look forward to a great BB season and find a way to get students and fans into Ford early and often.

Highland Park's is nicer. Just down the street.

obviously we will get one of these as soon as we can get to it. If we had SEC money it would be underway already. Its not rocket science.

I will agree that perhaps I am negative on RGT- he has only been here 20+ yrs and just recently had an interest in athletics. We would be in the sunbelt conference if it weren't for the CofC stepping up and deciding that we needed to move ahead in fball.

Why should athletics always need to have somebody write a check to get something done? Who wrote checks for our new dorms etc.?? We have an endowment and IMO some of that should be expended on sports facilities. i.e. - our swimming facilities are a joke and an embarrassment. We should have invested in a new natatorium years ago.
jj was promised an IPF and yet it keeps getting pushed back.

If we want first class sports programs then we need first class facilities to support them. I don't disagree that academics are of prime importance however, that should be balanced with creating an attractive atmosphere for our sports programs as well.

I don't blame JJ for his attitude, they promised him the stars and gave him nothing...

I posted this on a recruiting thread and suspect it is valid as to why jj has the attitude he does.

" I have been thinking about jj and his situation at SMU. As a result I have read and re-read Dennis Miller's book a number of times. Now, my conspiracy theory. JJ has changed a lot since he came here. Why? Well, my thinking is that he was promised many things. A lot of those things were not delivered. So he had a flirtation with U. of Md. to show the admin. how unhappy he was with those unfilled promises. When the admin. basically paid no attention to him he decided to leave. Hence, the ASU incident and all of its ramifications. He obviously is unhappy here and it is best if he leaves.
I like JJ and the way he interfaces with the players. I think his offense is outdated but could continue to succeed if he had the right players. The problem, as has been pointed out many times is his attitude toward recruiting and his lack thereof.

I sincerely hope that he is gone at the end of this season. I have no malice toward him and wish him well. He has done a lot for our school but IMO lost his enthusiasm and desire to succeed at SMU a couple of years ago. He will leave us better off than before and hopefully a new coach can take us to new heights and bring continued success. JMHO"

I am sorry, but you must be talking about Hawaii.

SMU ABSOLUTELY delivered.

He came to us and we went out and found an NFL level salary for a CUSA job - the highest in the conference at the time.

SMU went from having a mid-level budget within the conference to having the largest football budget in CUSA.

We absolutely adjusted our academic and admission standards to give him a chance - Stallion's own signature is a quote coming directly from JJ about 'being given a chance.'

Our facilities were practically brand new when he got here and have been altered to his own specifications - when he wanted the friggin' lights moved we spend half a mil moving them. Even the DMN pointed this out - that we gave him everything he asked for - when he tried to leave.

Christ, our own alumnus made him out to be a knight in shining armour in a damned nationally televised documentary!!

And for that he - or his agent - went and tried to bigger better deal us.

Look, I've been one of the ones who has spoken up for him: One knucklehead on this board called me a 'coward' for daring to say that we shouldn't fire him, and I still don't think we should. I mean, look at my own current signature. But to say that we 'gave him nothing' is COMPLETELY untrue. The ONLY thing we have not come around on is attendance, and I think that's due more to our fans and the issues that face the school directly (small school, scattered alumni base, etc.) than the admin's issues. But we have delivered, and when he's gone and he's retired living on a beach in Hawaii he better speak well of us.

I do believe they promised him a IPF and it has not been built yet. They also promised a better curriculum for athletes and as it might be implemented next year per Rick Hart. Might be. Full-time tutors are just now being hire per Mexmustang. So to some degree I can see why JJ is not totally happy here.

They have added an entirely new College of Education that houses plenty of SMU revenue sport athletes in various majors. More majors are on their way. You don't just start a school of education and fields of study overnite at a school like SMU. It takes facilities, huge donations, planning and faculty. Stop playing the poor June Jones game-nobody will be singing the poor Larry Brown game because he is getting the job done while June vacations in Hawaii.

Nobody promised JJ an IPF - that is just false. Yes he would like one. Every coach that doesn't have one would like one.
