For instance, when I was a freshman, I went to an SMU Young Republicans meeting with a new friend from NYC, who, it turned out, was Jewish: Holocaust jokes were being told at said meeting. Neither of us ever went back. My friend eventually transferred to the U of Colorado, where he joined the ski team. True story, and I think it has a moral that is relevant to our discussion, here.

Fair enough, we shouldn't be offending any groups and as a whole SMU doesn't do that. Isolated incidents do occur (like the one from your story) but obviously those aren't specific to SMU.

But we can still say that UNT grads work at Jack in the Box, UH fans grads fare better, they get to work at KFC, and Aggies are well, Aggies, and Tech fans are Aggie wannabes. Let's not get all sappy, hold hands and sing songs around the campfire just to attract a few stray fans.

George Mitchell was an Aggie, and he is as close to a renaissance man as I'll ever meet.

Non of these people work at KFC or 7-11: http://www.ranker.com/list/famous-unive ... nce?page=1

George Foreman is my neighbor, and he didn't even attend college. But, he has a very nice house and among other things, runs a boxing program for underprivileged, inner-city youth.

Stupid and hurtful smack about a whole university or class of people is just that: Stupid and hurtful. And, it doesn't reflect well on SMU, in my opinion. It might even hamstring our recruiting. Ask Jerry LeVias about his SMU experience.

I'm glad we don't play Rice anymore; their half-time shows in regard to SMU always hit a little too close to home.

Yes, because two points of data disprove a theory.

This is like when Adam Carolla said women weren't as funny becuase there are more men writing in comedy. He then listed a few like Tina Fey that were funny but on average men were funnier. People came out of the wood work, "Oh, person XX is funny. Bet you feel foolish" Yeah you name a couple of women comedians and that automatically makes him wrong on his statement about playing the odds that a man would have a small advantage over a woman, generally. So here we go:

Generally, SMU grads end up in better places than grads of UNT and UH.

P.S. Foreman was a pro athlete, of course he has money if he didn't [urinate] it away on hookers and blow.
Leader of the Band-itos.

PP- ok I understand your position. However, I think a) it is ok to talk smack to some of our competitors- in reality, most of it is in good fun, b) this country has become far to PC oriented. I used to love the Frito bandito ads but some thought they were racist and hence banned.

IMO- There is always room to make fun of some group or ethnic background without being malicious about it. How many times have you heard a person of color call white people 'honkies'? and there is no backlash. Yet if a white person uses the 'n' word he is a complete racist.

I am not (hopefully) bigoted and have friends of many different nationalities. We often tell jokes etc. and none of us are offended.

College rivalries are just that. Ohio St. 'hates' Michigan and likewise, but in reality they would stick up for each other like brothers in confronted by another conference.
Sadly, tolerance seems like a word no longer acceptable.

You'll find much worse insults about those schools you listed on other message boards (cough shaggybevo cough cough texags). Doesn't seem to hamstring their recruiting. A person's sensibilities would have to be pretty fragile to be offended by the tame banter found on Ponyfans.
