Official SMU-Cincy Score Prediction Thread

Upside: Cinci has not looked too good. Our offense is hitting its stride.

Downside: a road game. We have not managed to put 2 good quarters together much less four. Cincinnati has a winning record and is a BCS team. That combo doesn't bode well for us.

Prediction: With the Hawaii Bowl on the line, I am going to say SMU pulls it out in a surprise solid performance.

My thoughts.....

Key to this game:

SMU Defense - We need them to come out and hit Cincy in the mouth. I think if somehow someway Mason can coach up our D in this game to play their hearts out we win, plain and simple.

Without the D stepping up, I think we will lose in a shootout.

With Defense playing well -> 38-28 - SMU wins

W/O -> 42-28 - Too much pressure on the offense, Gilbert gets sacked a lot.....

Cincy is hard to get a read on.

If playing better competition is actually makes you better, then they as a whole aren't anywhere near where we should be. Their most impressive win, I think, has come against a bad Purdue team in the first game. They lost to South Florida. They struggled the whole game against Memphis, while I tend to believe we got a big lead and then sleep walked through the rest of the way.

I think we are the better team, but we have to show up to play.

I agree with those who think we win in the 42-28 area.

Cincy are a sack machine (but they have played weak teams for the most part). If we can protect GG I think we will win. If GG is troubled constantly it will make it very hard. Having a RB step up and perform better than we have seen so far would be very useful.

I have had a chance to watch just about all of UC's games. Outside of the Purdue game, which was the opening game for Tuberville, they have been pretty underwhelming. They had to score twice in the last 5 minutes to beat a really bad Miami (OH) 14-0, and they absolutely stunk against USF. They do have a pretty decent defense and a fair offense. I think that if we can jump on them and get a lead, they will have to rely on the passing offense, which to be honest, is pretty one dimensional without Munchie at the helm. With two weeks to prepare and recover, I think that the Ponies offense will cause UC all sorts of headaches. Look for GG to spread things out to lots of receivers and SMU will win 48-31.

Cincy has some quality Defensive Lineman and LBs. Big negative for SMU is the forecasted 20 mph-30 mph wind forecast which is going to hurt SMU and its poor running game. But I guess it could also serve to neutralize SMU's secondary weakness with Parks and Randolph. I'm going to go with SMU +3 due to home field advantage and add 3 more due to wind.

If 1.5 quarter SMU will be a change of 3 points... So either 31-28 smu or the other way
