HC Salarieshttp://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/ ... aaf/coach/
June #52, in between Michigan State and Texas Tech.
Re: HC Salariesstill 6 years later and still (really) the Highest Paid non-BCS Coach in America except for Peterson at Boise St who unquestionably has earned it and could have most any BCS job he wants. Cinncinati becomes a non-BCS school next year and ridiculously overpaid for Tommy Turberville PS I realize the AAC gets automatic BCS bid this year.

Re: HC Salaries“Worth it†is highly dependent on who’s paying for it, which none of us here are. But I went back and pulled Sagarin final season rankings and found the following:
SMU averaged a 122 final ranking in the ten years before JJ. His first year, 2008, the team ended up ranked 149. The last four years 2009-2012, we’ve been averaging a 64 final Sagarin ranking, including a 2011 rank of 51 and a 2012 rank of 54. So how does that compare to Patterson in his first five years? TCU ranked 77 Sagarin in 2001 (after having finished 18 in 2000 for Franchione’s final year). But then 2002 through 2005, years four through five for Patterson, they went 49, 48, 91, and 15 final Sagarin, an average of 51.
Re: HC SalariesPB- maybe you should consider ROI. i.e. TCwho is slightly above us in you Sagarin rankings however how much does fatterson generate in revenues from the B12 as opposed to what we get from one of the not-P5 conferences. Seems like there is a lot bigger differential there.
Re: HC SalariesCelebrating mediocrity...
Re: HC SalariesI am 100% convinced all the College HC's of America owe JJ a huge debt of gratitude.
He (with the help of course our own CofC) single-handedly raised the bar for what they now earn.
Re: HC Salaries
Well, the key is that TCU did hit the Top 25 once in Franchione's regime (his last year) and multiple times with Patterson starting in his year 5. We expected that from JJ, that he'd be in Top 25 territory by now. That's a big source of the frustration, I get that. Though I still think it's enormously unreasonable.

Enormously unreasonable because....... They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security

Re: HC Salaries
We haven't had a Heisman winner..... It's not a whole argument, but I think it helped immensely. Mustangs Abu!
Re: HC SalariesJJ has not earned his 2 million salary...not with his performance...not 7-5!
Re: HC SalariesSMU should put a clause in the contract regarding performance for the next coach that we have to pay that huge amount. 9-3 or better seasons are bare minimum, and if he wants facilities and changes to the school/program, he has to produce....stop celebrating mediocrity!
Re: HC Salaries
Because what TCU pulled off is what 100 other programs would crap themselves to mimic.
Re: HC Salaries
One more thing, there is no I in ROI if SMU didn't pay for JJ. Said in another way, I'd say we've gotten a pretty nice return in moving from a steady showing in the 120 range Sagarin pre JJ to the current mid 50's to 60's range under JJ if our investment was zero.
Re: HC SalariesThis has to be the 9123848123rd time PB pulls out this Sargarin argument. We get it.. he turned us from utter crap to crap. We're still crap and he's unable to change that. We need a new coach who can uncrapify us.
Re: HC SalariesKeep hating, Lebanon. Keep hating.
Last year alone, JJ had us ranked higher than Pitt, Utah, Arkansas, Minnesota, Iowa, Purdue, Indiana, Cal, Auburn, Virginia. That's not top 25. But that's not crap, pal. We agree on basics. We need a new coach to take us to the next level -- to the Top 25. But lay off the nonstop and irrational hate.
