There is definitely some individual offensive talent

Funny.

I think this is the SMU football team we all expected to see when we first hired JJ - lots of shootouts. All concern about the receivers and QB turned out to be completely unfounded but my god we need to learn how to get off blocks and tackle.

It's a bad combination to be bad in red zone offense and red zone defense. The red zone offense red zone defense stats are the story of the season in many ways.

We need to build depth on both sides of the ground: Running Backs, and stopping the run from our opponents.
TCU, Cincy, UCF and most teams we play run the ball. If we move to a P5 conference, we need to be able to run the ball if we want to win.

Being that bad in rushing hurts us. Found this in wikipedia regarding run and shoot, and it helps explain our weakness in the red zone.

"Many commentators noted that the Run & Shoot is less effective in the "Red Zone," when the offense is less than 20 yards from the goal line. In this area the offense has less room to move around and cannot spread the defense out as in other areas of the field."

WE NEED to recruit RB's

We need dominant O-linemen who can make space for our running backs. I think we are fine in the RB and QB department. We are just pretty weak everywhere else. I'm glad WRs are much better than what they were in the OOC but maybe that's attributed to playing less talented teams. I'm going with the latter on that one.

TCU's secondary is among the best...and Tech's defense is okay this year. Still we should have been able to take one of those 2 games...

We are where we are because of our [deleted] poor defense, especially passing defense and [deleted] poor in game leadership from our coaches. Offensively, we are clicking (IMHO the only reason our rushing numbers are so bad is bc we just simply don't run the ball - Nlemchi is good and our OL is young but not too bad). This season is all on our defense. Hell, as bad as our D was in THIS game, we hit both field goals we still win.

Rushing numbers are bad because we aren't running...but we need to run to win. It was proven in JJ's best year (2011) we had a solid running game and our defense really held the ground. We need that running game back!

Stop talking about moving to a P5 conference. You clearly don't understand what GOR is

No-but not graduating anyone. June can always move a NG or something to RB
