Zelt Minor

Postby Stallion » Mon Nov 11, 2013 3:49 am

Zelt Minor now has 6 tackles which is about equal to the number of plays I remember seeing Zelt Minor in the game. Can we at least get this wasted redshirt into enough plays to see if he can actually play. Why in the hell was his redshirt pulled? This ranks right up there with the Jeremy Johnson one catch wasted redshirt

Zelt was productive in the Cincy game. I hope we see more of him. I thought he was overhyped but he is beginning to look like the real deal.

Not trying to stir the pot, but I do wonder if players that suggest they're going to transfer get his red shirt pulled. After all, playing a little in year 1 is better than playing none for 2.

See Johnson, J. with 1 catch his freshman year. Glad we used him then b/c we definitely wouldn't want him as a 5th year senior next year.

I bet Minor leads team in Tackles per minutes played. How many plays has he even been in the game for? I'm thinking 20-25 if that much. Hard to follow sometimes in cheap seats and on TV but 6 tackles in such limited playing time is interesting. But let's not give him a chance to prove himself. There is something going on we don't know about. For a freshman DE to make 4 tackles in his debut at A&M playing minimal plays and then not see action for another 5 weeks is a little bizzare when you yanked the redshirt off your most highly recruited freshman. He's got half a sack this week and he flushed Manziel from the pocket twice against A&M.

Agree that it was bizarre to yank his RS, but if we're going to play him then it might as well be all hands on deck for the final four games of the season....especially seeing the way our defense was mauled in the run game on Saturday.

I wonder if they promised Zelt during his recruitment that he wouldn't RS his freshman year...perhaps the early playing time was an incentive to come here instead of Tech?

I have no knowledge personally, but my guess is that something like this may be the case.

Did he burn his redshirt? Has he played in more than 20% of the games? That's the rule right?

That's the basketball rule for minutes in OOC games.

He's burned his redshirt already. You play at all, and it's burned. (someone correct me if I'm wrong)

I bet you're thinking of medical redshirt. He has to be hurt and not play a certain amount. Otherwise if he touches the field that his RS gone.

Didn't Mason say Minor would play if he came along as they expected he would even during preseason. I suggest he probably played his way in during practice. Doubt the coaches worry about redshirts when they just need to win games...especially if they are leaving soon.

I'm with you AusTX. I think he probably played his way in during practice, which is not a bad thing. He could be part of a really good rotation at DE with him and Beau Barnes, Zach Wood, McClennegan. We actually have a pretty decent pass ruch at this juncture.

If this is the case, we need play the dude. Often. Don't waste his redshirt. We need him, maybe he'll have a coming out party against UH.
