Blame for poor season1) Orsini for the ridiculously hard schedule. The toughest non-conference schedule in the country did not give our team much of a chance to get some wins before conference
2) Poor recruiting by the coaches. June has hired his old buddies who have turned out to be either lazy recruiters or not very good. Jason Phillips seems to be recruiting pretty hard but not sure about the others. Our class this season looks pretty weak and filled with mostly 2 stars with no quality Div. 1 offers. As a result - no bowl game this year. And looking at next season's tough schedule probably no bowl game next year either.
Re: Blame for poor seasonHopefully we can get some blowouts and give Burcham some playing time. He'll be running this train next year.

Re: Blame for poor season
Put "poor recruiting" before blaming Orsini. Even with the difficult preseason schedule, this team has looked less than stellar against one of the easier conference schedules as they haven't exactly been playing top 25 competition on a weekly basis. Peruna is my mascot!
Re: Blame for poor seasonThe schedule was not ridiculously hard, it only seemed like that to some because of the lousy job our coaches have done recruiting talent.

Re: Blame for poor seasonOur ridiculously hard non-conference schedule consisted of one team currently ranked in the top 25, #11 A&M. Might as drop to FCS with that attitude. We recruit at an FCS level, and we play at an FCS level. The results shouldn't be surprising.

Re: Blame for poor season
An FCS school and the number 5 and 8 placed teams in the Big 12 do not make it the toughest non-conference schedule in the country. We made them look really good.
Re: Blame for poor seasonWe are not mathematically eliminated from a bowl game yet. Need to win 3 of the remaining 4 games for a 6-6 season.

Re: Blame for poor season
It is an absolutely, extremely difficult schedule compared to teams like UH. IF we were close to being on par to the Big12, then yes the schedule is easy. But we aren't. That's why we weren't invited to play in the Big12. Let's talk about where we are NOW not where we all want us to be. Where we are NOW, is to play cupcakes out of conference like most other teams where we want to be (who has aTm played out of conference any good? TT? TCU? (other than LSU) Baylor? UH?). Come on. I've already laid out why we are having a poor season. OF COURSE, it starts and stops with JJ and his recruiting but more SPECIFICALLY it's the IN GAME leadership of this coaching, the dumb [deleted] scheduling, and a soft [deleted] defense. We are NOT the pony express of the early 80s. We need "Ws" and some go getter recruiters. The first part is easier with scheduling. The second part is all about the money.
Re: Blame for poor season
Your scheduling plan would have been fine 15 years ago, unfortunately in the current CFB climate we don't have time for slow and steady. Expansion is about what is attractive to the networks and a bunch of fake wins in empty stadiums is not attractive (see the AAC TV contract). If we don't start thinking about where we want to be then we're going to be stuck where we are (G5 purgatory) until the damn sun burns out. Also keep in mind that schedules are made years in advance and that the cupcakes you schedule today might not be so soft in 5 years when gametime rolls around. Re: Blame for poor seasonWhen you are in year 6 of a coaching regime you dont get to use tough OOC schedule as an excuse for missing a bowl.
that is especially true considering Tech is average at best and TCU is just plain bad.
Re: Blame for poor season
We should start Burcham in the Houston, UCF games..
Re: Blame for poor season
I hear you, and don't take my tone personally. I'm just SO tired of watching us lose. It's been almost 3 decades. It's nuts. So how do magically start beating Baylor, TT? All of a sudden, we're going to just start picking up tons of high 4 star recruits in every class? I think we need to build a perception of momentum. JJ got us out of purgatory, now we have graduated to mediocrity. Next step is to string together some 9, 10 win seasons and personally I could care less who we have to play to get there. Sorry, but the teams that these other programs play always suck OOC (sure an Appalachian St COULD happen anytime, but most likely Buffalo and Wofford and Southern are always going to suck ... or at least the likelihood of them sucking is much much higher than the likelihood of, say, Baylor or TT sucking in the next 3-4 years). I say we play a cupcake OOC schedule and throw in ONE big local game a year with either TCU or Baylor or TT or aTm then leave the rest of the "tough" teams for those we play in conference.
Re: Blame for poor season
Yes, and I agree with this. That's the bottom line without a doubt. After the UCF win coming off the TCU win and us getting top 25 votes and with Klemm here, we had some great momentum mid season 2011. THAT's the momentum we should have ridden and should have been on par with UCF right now (surpassing Houston). But, other than our offense this year, the rest of this team has receded (defense, special teams, recruiting, all of it).
