I think you're right that our contract is as large as it is because of basketball. That said, if UConn, Cincy, Memphis, Temple, continue to have strong hoops programs and SMU, UH, and UCF continue to grow their programs, this league could be better long term than the SEC, B10, P12, and Big XII in hoops. ESPN needs to fill a lot of programming in the Winter as do Fox, NBC, CBS, and college hoops does it. And UConn/Temple, Cincy/Memphis, SMU/UH if the games are of high quality are the kind of games that will attract views. Add in some tourney revenues and the league could be a very marketable commodity. Football is the big revenue producer. And we have some great markets in the American. (Dallas, Houston, Hartford, DC, Philly, Cincy, Memphis, Orlando, New Orleans, and Tampa). If we can start to generate some interest in those markets as football programs, then viewership improves. If UH and SMU begin to get more ink, that will be a key. I think U Conn, UCF and USF get a lot of attention in their markets. Cincy will always be looking up at OSU. Because Memphis is across the state from Knoxville, if they could put a credible product on the field they were get some attention. Tulane will never rule NO like LSU. Temple has a chance as well, since again Penn State is across the state from Temple. They just have to get their act together. Navy has a national following and gets a lot of ink in DC.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

With my amazing prognostication talents, I predict a BCS bowl for the AAC this season. But after that, you're probably right, we won't get a BCS spot ever again. In fact, I would say there's a 100% chance.

Now Stealth, are you saying this because after this year, the BCS won't exist anymore? Now that wouldn't make any sense, now would it?

Sorry, just pointing out the obvious for everyone else

P5 teams will have an Automatic tie in into a "BCS Bowl" (Rose, Sugar, Orange, Fiesta etc) which will still be around. Notre Dame gets a bid too.
The CFBall Playoff system will have top 4 teams in there.

Yep, the TV deal is for Basketball/Football. I'm guessing it's as "high" as it is because of basketball...

The TV deal being for BB and FB does not answer ECM's question. I don't know if the NCAA credits for tournament performance are in there or not, but they are not at all related to the direct conference money for TV broadcasts.

They're not BCS bowls anymore though. They're just "high revenue, high exposure, big boy" bowls. It's not an "automatic bid" thing anymore. Conferences have specific tie ins with their teams. The BCS will die this year

Memphis competes with not only TN, but with a big chuck of the SEC. Ole Miss, Miss State, Vandy, and Bama are closer to Memphis than Knoxville. Ark, LSU, KY, and Auburn are about the same driving distance.
