OT - UH moves a game in less than two weeks?

Postby CA Mustang » Wed Nov 13, 2013 7:35 pm

So CK claims it is too small yet the players prefer it?

The intimate atmosphere reminds them of their high school venues.

The rumor is that Rice told UH that they wouldn't be allowed to use Rice Stadium's locker rooms.

The best insight about what happened:
Rice knew we needed a place to play a game. So they quoted us $125,000+ BUT with no access to the locker room, strict tailgating restrictions, no access to the Owl Club, no logos, no signage, and a few other things. We weren't happy but we had no other options. Then, about a week ago, the Dynamo organization let us know we'd be able to play there. So, why in the world would we write a check to Rice? I really think it is that simple. We're competitors in the same city. It also didn't help things that Rice is refusing to schedule us in several sports as "punishment."

Rice scheduled a 1:1 with A&M with the first game in CS next year and a game at Reliant in 2019 or so.

The Dynamo would have had to hold that date since it is the second leg of the MLS conference finals. When the Dynamo knew they would be on the road that day I'm sure they made UH aware the stadium was available.

They probably already had this deal tentatively in place all along. No big deal at all.

I'm sure Rice was doing their best to screw them too.

How's that? Attracting only 22K for a game at a pro soccer stadium?

Still more people than SMU's homecoming.

Also, Rice can kiss my [deleted]. I don't want anything to do with them at this point.

Playing to our strengths and avoiding our weaknesses usually eludes us...

That's funny considering that high schools tend to have bigger crowds than SMU. I also recall our new stadium being significantly larger and nicer than Ford.

Some area HS's (e.g., Allen HS) have more students than SMU does. Unlike Houston, we don't accept everyone that comes to us with a 9th grade report card written in crayon.
