Real problem is Faculty and Staff's lack of support for FB

Postby feelthehorsepower » Sun Nov 17, 2013 3:13 am

Spoke to several of the team's coaches. JJ is not the problem AT ALL.
They say they get heavy opposition from the faculty and SMU staff. SMU is not focused in athletics and they make recruiting impossible. Why are we not getting the guys we want? SMU academic standards.
One of the things they said were hurting recruiting was fan support. A lot of the kids said they did not feel so hot about our crowds (lack of). This is why the first step has to come from us alumni.

PS: All you jackasses that talk crock about me-you did not come to the game. I was there and you just hid behind your laptop and cell phone. I gave my all today and we had a good thing going in our section. We need creative ideas to make the game day experience better than what it is today. Stop talking crap and being all [deleted] about "post counting"cause I could care less. (Eastcoast mustang, blackout pony, and every one else that speaks cack)

But why is basketball recruiting so successful? Just an honest question.
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

It's easier to turn around a basketball program with just 1 great recruit. Football takes several recruiting classes until you get it done. I don't think our school has made it easy on recruiters to get the guys we need because of our "academic standards" etc.

Still, our recruiting problems are not due to the staff we have...we do not show support for our football team. Why do you think kids would want to play for a school that has less school spirit than their high school? I don't blame em.

yet another dumb post.

why the hell would regular DFW folk come to SMU games? Our team stinks. We need to string together a couple of good seasons and at the very least get ranked. its disgusting that we still haven't been ranked in a top 25 in the June era.. absolutely unacceptable. SMU is a tiny school, if we want to fill the stadium we need fans that have no relation to SMU to come out and that will only happen once we become good.

our recruiting classes are pitiful. im not an expert on this but arent the basketball athletes subject to the same academic standards as the football players? Larry B in his first two recruiting classes has secured two 5-star recruits in Frazier and Mudiay. June has yet to get a 4-star play for us in his 5 years here. Don't tell me his recruiting is impaired due to academic standards cause that's BS

Our academic standards are no more stringent than NCAA minimum standards. Give me some examples or empirical data before spouting baseless opinions.

The only recruits that SMU has rejected have NEVER played a down of D1 football- and I can name them all. This is no longer a valid excuse.

If you had said that academic support for FB players was lacking, I might have actually listened. But the fact is we are recruiting on a level playing field with just about any program.

The lack of fan support I cannot argue with - and I'm sure that does affect recruiting in a very negative way.

When you want information about someone, asking a bunch of people whose jobs depend on that person is not the best way to get unbiased information in my experience.

Not sure how this is on the faculty. They help everyone that's enrolled in their classes. If the stringent admissions requirements are still going on, wouldn't that be on the senior administration that sets requirements for the admissions office? Also, wouldn't higher caliber students want to come to SMU to play football for free? It's a premier university ranked #3 in Texas behind Rice and UT and is on the way up while the top two are stagnant and declining.

It seems like the fans have given up on the team. The announced attendance was 5K less than Rice's but Rice is having a very good year and more importantly is known for highly inflating their attendance numbers.

Stanford needs to lower their academic standards. Same with Duke. Then maybe those schools will win.

I needed 1 extra ticket yesterday so I bought 1 from ticket window. The cheapest ticket was $20! Why did we not just drop ticket prices to $5 to get some butts in the seat. If you have no affiliation to SMU, do you really think a father with 2 kids is going to drop $60 (without concessions)to watch SMU and winless UCONN?!

been saying this for years. I remember attending a basketball game at UT-Chattanooga in the Dement years and was pleasantly surprised to learn that after buying my ticket and my wife's, we got tickets for our 2 school age children for just $1 each. The Boulevard could attract families but we have to price for young families and advertise that. When the Dallas Cowboys started up and were trying to attract fans, my father could buy an endzone seat and bring 5 school age kids free. That's what we need to be doing in an effort to fill some of those empty seats

I was busy grilling and boiling seafood with a couple other PF users on the blvd. Sorry that I did not feel the need to neglect friends and fun to come on here for a p!ss!ng match.

Visiting fans are put at the 40-50 yd line now or did UConn not bring any fans?

Academics isn't an excuse. Stanford, Duke, Vandy and UCLA to name a few, all have much higher academic standards than SMU yet they are still getting decent players. All four of them are having pretty nice seasons too.

They brought probably about 500 fans...and they were smart and moved closer to midfield

I'm always amused when people come on here and rail on the only 35 people left who are dumb enough to invest the time and energy to join an SMU message board to talk about SMU athletics.
