Re: Does SMU shut down the boulevard before kickoff?I say we use the same riot police that they used at the RNC in Tampa. Shut er' down fellas! Get out the tear gas if we have to!
Re: Does SMU shut down the boulevard before kickoff?
And while we're at it, stop having a CUTEST PUPPY contest on the Boulevard. The person responsible for a dog on the Boulevard HAS NO INTENTION OF GOING TO THE GAME!
Re: Does SMU shut down the boulevard before kickoff?
Uhhh...what? Guys, the Boulevard is awesome. It's a huge asset. It's not the problem. Half of our problem is already solved with having thousands of potential paying customers within walking distance of our stadium every Saturday. The key to getting them inside isn't antagonizing them; it's beating teams they've heard of and having a product on the field that is worthy of their time. This is why I contend that putting in a patio, bar-like atmosphere in the north endzone. People want to socialize, they want to drink. They don't want to sit on their hands and drink Sprite for three hours. Hell, we should convert the north endzone stands into the Katy Trail Ice House of the Park Cities- big screen TVs, full bar, a covered awning, and seats facing the field. We've got to compete for other people's time- people in Dallas like to socialize, and putting a quality product on the field is crucially important, but it's not the only aspect. 2005 PonyFans.com Rookie of the Year Award Recipient
Re: Does SMU shut down the boulevard before kickoff?I <3 telling people they need to go somewhere and then act surprised when they don't do it when I told them to.
Re: Does SMU shut down the boulevard before kickoff?Let's not screw up one of the great things about SMU to try to fix another problem. Don't mess with The Boulevard, make The Ford more appealing.
And I agree on the dog thing. No one loves a good puppy dog more than I do, but people who bring dogs aren't going to the game. A "no dogs allowed" rule might be a subtle message that The Boulevard is for people going to the game, without chasing off everyone.
Re: Does SMU shut down the boulevard before kickoff?
If people want to bring dogs and socialize, that's fine. I don't have a problem with it. We should focus on giving them an incentive to leave the dog at home and go to the game rather than attempting to curtail their behavior 2005 PonyFans.com Rookie of the Year Award Recipient
Re: Does SMU shut down the boulevard before kickoff? This plan is a surefire way to [deleted] off what little supporters we have.

Re: Does SMU shut down the boulevard before kickoff?Good we need to start pissin' off some of these entiltled snobs. They aren't football supporters if they never make it inside Ford. Explain to me why shutting down the Boulevard at GAME TIME is destroying the Boulevard. The Boulevard was set up for Football not for a Puppy Park or campus outdoor bar that actually distracts from an SMU event

Re: Does SMU shut down the boulevard before kickoff?Umm because we want them to go to the football game, not turn around and [deleted] on Dallas hall?

I've made comments to friends that SMU could open the boulevard the day of an away game or a bye week and you would hardly know the difference.

"GET IN THE FORD...NOW!!!!"
Re: Does SMU shut down the boulevard before kickoff?
I'm sorry - but that is actually what we need. If they aren't going to the game, the Blvd people do absolutely NOTHING for us. Period. They might as well just stay home or in the frat/sorority house. The blvd is for TAILGATING - which is what you do BEFORE you go to the game (and maybe at halftime). When the tailgating gets in the way of actually GOING to the game - it becomes a problem.
Re: Does SMU shut down the boulevard before kickoff?
In order to be served beer in the boulevard, you need to show your ticket to the game/student ID...otherwise you don't get anything.
Re: Does SMU shut down the boulevard before kickoff?having an unused ticket doesn't matter. Students get free tix and they cannot be bothered to go to the game.
