SMU Adds Depth With Signing Class Of Five
Mustangs ink Australian National Team players

Nov. 19, 2013

DALLAS (SMU) - Five players signed National Letter of Intent to play women's basketball at SMU, including two with national team experience in Australia, head coach Rhonda Rompola announced.

"I am elated with the signing of this year's class. We add depth at every position," head coach Rhonda Rompola stated.

Twins Alicia and Keely Froling come in as the No. 1 and No. 3 ranked players in Australia. Alicia, a 6-2 forward, and Keely, a 6-3 guard/forward, each represented Australia at the 2012 FIBA U17 World Championships in Amsterdam. A year later, Alicia helped lead Australia to a bronze medal in the 2013 FIBA U19 World Championships in Lithuania as a 16-year-old.

The sisters also led the U18 North Queensland team to its first national championship in 2013. Keely averaged 19.1 points and 11.8 rebounds, and Alicia scored 16.1 points with 13.5 rebounds and 3.6 blocks per game. Keely was also on the team in 2012. She averaged 13.8 points, 10.9 rebounds and 2.3 blocks during the tournament.

Local standout Aurmani DeGar has decided to stay close to home and play for the Mustangs. A three-year starter at Mansfield Timberview, the same high school current SMU All-America candidate Keena Mays attended, DeGar has earned All-District as well as Academic All-District honors. As a junior, the 5-8 guard averaged nearly 10 points per game.

The Mustangs also signed Taylor Brame, a 5-11 forward from Chicago who is ranked as the No. 25 player at her position by ESPN. Brame led Whitney Young High School to a third-place finish in the Illinois state tournament. Brame averaging 13 points, eight rebounds and three assists, leading the Lady Dolphins to a 26-5 record during her junior season.

A two-time All-State selection in Colorado, Mikayla Reese also chose to play at SMU. Reese, a 5-8 point guard who was invited to compete with the U16 USA Basketball team, is averaging 11 points per game with four assists and four rebounds. She guided Sand Creek High School to its first Sweet 16 appearance in the state tournament, and the team has advanced to the Great 8 in back-to-back seasons.

SMU is 3-0 this season, and posted the program's ninth 20-win season with a 21-10 record last season. The Mustangs also went 12-4 in conference games to win the regular-season title. SMU will play three more games at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland, Texas, before beginning American Athletic Conference play in newly-renovated Moody Coliseum against USF on Jan. 4.
