On another note they should seriously consider using the logo on the gloves with the state of Texas on their white helmets.

Tech is trying to become Texas' team. We are just trying to be Dallas' team. Here's SMU's uniform release photos from last year...a last minute, after-thought, in front of a bathroom at the hotel where we were debuting them in front of alumni. We really pulled out the big guns...pardon the Tech pun... Image
I really wish you hadn't reminded me of this. Just terrible.

I'd like to see our next jerseys have the state of Texas on them somewhere, and you've gotta do the Pony logo on the underneath of the gloves. There's so much cool stuff we COULD do with our uniforms.
That was the most derp rollout ever.

^^^^^^You can tell that a lot of thought and effort went into this rollout. ^^^^^^

This was the equivalent of stopping at a gas station to buy your kids their Christmas presents.

"Here you go Bobby, enjoy those wiper blades!"

"Gee, thanks Dad!"

How long did Nike spend designing our uniforms? 10 minutes? Less?

And how does that process work- are we at their mercy, or can we send them a design and say "Here, print these up with Nike logos on them?"

Simply put, they don't use public funds for uniform craziness.

When a school signs a contract with Nike, Nike essentially "gives" them money to use to buy uniforms, shoes, and other items from Nike. Ole Miss, for example, gets around $2 million a year from Nike for uniforms and other apparel. That covers the cost of all uniforms but, in reality, is enough to fund several alternate uniforms.

You also have to remember that larger state University athletic departments bring in revenues that would make Mr. Hart and his staff wet themselves. Ole Miss, for example, is expected to bring in just over $70 million in revenue this year. $15 million from football ticket sales, $21 million in conference revenue sharing, and $12 million expected from annual donations are the 3 top revenue sources at what is a relatively small SEC school.

Of course, you also have to factor in the fact that the various brands have their "flagship" programs. Nike has Oregon and basically writes a blank check for any and all crazy uniform combinations they want to come up with. Under Armour has Maryland, Auburn, and Texas Tech but only Maryland and Texas Tech have any willingness to participate in uniform craziness... Auburn fans would lynch the coach that rolled out some fancy new uniform.

If anyone wants to take their own shot at designing SMU uniforms off of a Nike template, have at it:
