He has a crazy list of offers. I know he's only a two star, BUT since offers are really what matters, does this make him the biggest WR get of the June Jones era?
He has 11 BCS offers (no I'm not counting SMU and Temple)
AND FINALLY WE HAVE SOMEONE THAT"S TALL! YAYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!

2 star because of injury last year and he did not make it to camps. Let's see how he does in the spring. Could be a very good get.blackoutpony wrote:He has a [deleted] crazy list of offers. I like that both Harris and Goulbourne are enrolling early. With Gilbert leaving at QB and Holman/JJ leaving at WR there should be some very interesting battles to see who ends up starting.

If he signs he'll be the biggest get, Marks was more highly regarded but of course signed elsewhere.

Wow! Impressive. I don't care about his star rating, but I do care about his offers. Great job by the coaches. I wish we recruited like this all the time.

But Marks couldn't get past admissions, so was/is totally irrelevant -- at least for anything other than making headlines w/ the recruiting services. This then is MUCH bigger commit.sbsmith wrote:blackoutpony wrote:Marks was more highly regarded but of course signed elsewhere.

Marks had to have at least passed the NCAA clearinghouse or he would not have played for Washington State as a true freshman. I don't know if this is a much bigger commit because Marks started his freshman year at Washington State and has had good numbers. If Goulbourne starts his freshman year and has much better numbers then you can accurate say this is a much better recruit. Let's tap the breaks a bit before we start making him the next Julio Jones. Not that he can't be but let's see how he comes back from the broken foot.Webmaster wrote:But Marks couldn't get past admissions, so was/is totally irrelevant -- at least for anything other than making headlines w/ the recruiting services. Re: Florida WR Goulbourne Commits to SMU
I am quite sure you are correct in this regard. But even as recently as last year there were additional hurdles recruits had to pass before they could be admitted. I don't know the specific details or measures, but it is my understanding that if a perspective student-athlete fell below a certain academic score, their case would be reviewed to determine if the review panel felt the student had a reasonable chance to graduate from SMU. We lost a couple of high profile recruits to this process.SMU 86 wrote:Marks had to have at least passed the NCAA clearinghouse or he would not have played for Washington State as a true freshman.
So while (for example) the recruitment or Davon Moreland made headlines, the whole situation was BS because it was HIGHLY unlikely he'd be admitted to SMU.

Re: Florida WR Goulbourne Commits to SMU
We got Frazier into SMU and Marks grades were above clearinghouse standards. We had to do backflips just so he could barely get through clearinghouse on a sliding scale. In fact we admitted Frazier while he was below the clearinghouse sliding scale and he had to take summer school classes to get eligible. And he was only declared eligible 3 weeks before hoops season. Marks would have made it if he would not have switched his commitment because he did not have to go through all of that. But like I said we need to tap the brakes on the MUCH bigger commit stuff. Let's allow the young man to get on campus and fully recover from the broken foot.

Re: Florida WR Goulbourne Commits to SMU
Let me try to simplify my point...
Marks committed in early 2012 and could not get past admissions.
Frazier committed last spring and could.
Things have changed on the Hilltop as far as student-athlete admissions are concerned and there has been a lot of behind-the-scenes work done over the course of several years, and much positive pressure has been applied to make this happen.
So it's irrelevant whether or not we get a commitment from a kid or how many stars they have if they can't get in. I don't think we'll get a 2nd chance on kids like Marks, Moreland, Coulter, Jackson and probably another half dozen "name" recruits that were admissions casualties that I could name if I sat here and thought about it.
Also, don't forget about Jeremiah Gaines, he had a pile of offers and was a top rated receiver too (albeit at TE).
