the 800 at A&M and 1800 at TCU is where the argument that SMU has anything but extremely poor fan support breaks down. We had significantly higher allotments for both games-both are embarrassing for any decently supported school

the two main (related) problems are:

1) We play in a 2nd tier football conference that the majority of college football fans couldn't care less about.

2) SMU is NO ONE'S primary team other than a handful of die-hard alums (mostly on this message board). Almost all SMU students are Texas/LSU/USC/Georgia/Fill-in-the-blank-with-major-team fan's first and maybe they will watch SMU if they are so inclined. Same with Dallas as a city. No one in Dallas is primarily an SMU fan. Even in fort worth, a decent amount of the city sees TCU as the home team. Not so in Dallas.

I don't see any amount of marketing changing this. The only potential solution I see is if we somehow join a major conference like the Big 12 (ha), and have a dog in the fight vs. tcu/tech/baylor/ou and the other schools that are the "primary" teams of the dfw area. Otherwise, we will continue to be an afterthought whether we go 12-0 in the AAC or not.
