Marks decommited after Klemm left. Cut the BS and Klemm hate. Plus we have signed players in the past that have not cleared the clearinghouse like Brandon Thornton and Rickey Collins. As Stallion has said in many occasion admissions is not the issue. Plus there is no proof Marks had issues other than people slandering his name. Maybe we can convert Goulbourne to NT if he does not come from his injury.Webmaster wrote:Let me try to simplify my point...
Marks committed in early 2012 and could not get past admissions.
Frazier committed last spring and could.
Things have changed on the Hilltop as far as student-athlete admissions are concerned and there has been a lot of behind-the-scenes work done over the course of several years, and much positive pressure has been applied to make this happen.
So it's irrelevant whether or not we get a commitment from a kid or how many stars they have if they can't get in. I don't think we'll get a 2nd chance on kids like Marks, Moreland, Coulter, Jackson and probably another half dozen "name" recruits that were admissions casualties that I could name if I sat here and thought about it.

Re: Florida WR Goulbourne Commits to SMU
Actually, there is "proof"; you're just not privy to it.
The problem with said proof is that SMU can't/won't comment on kids who aren't enrolled in the school. So whatever is said, doesn't matter if the information is false or not, SMU won't refute it.

The football coaches might be feeding you that crap so they would not look so bad. I know you are a suck up to them but if you can't provide proof you need to stop slandering Marks. How would you like it if someone were publicly slandering you like that without showing proof to the people that they were talking to? He passed clearinghouse and that is a fact.Webmaster wrote:Actually, there is "proof"; you're just not privy to it.

Re: Florida WR Goulbourne Commits to SMU
I guess it could all be part of some elaborate ruse (like anyone at SMU would possibly give enough of a rat crap about PonyFans to even give us a second thought). But beyond that, we heard about possible admissions issues before the "decommitment".
But believe what you will. I've already spent more time on this subject than its worth and we've derailed the Goulbourne thread long enough.

I think it is a shame that a grown man has to slander an 19 year old kid that can't defend himself on a public board to feel about about not getting him. Welcome to SMU Kadeem. Get well soon.

Re: Florida WR Goulbourne Commits to SMU
I never heard anything negative about Lewis academically. I did hear he was much smaller in person than on film (or than was reported at the time), which is why the staff cooled on his recruitment.

Re: Florida WR Goulbourne Commits to SMU
You heard wrong-he was LA MVP-they didn't cool on him except to save face after each and every one of those kids backed off SMU within days of the June Jones/ASU fiasco. The much hated Laken Littman at Scout got quotes from each and every one of those West Coast commitments stating they had cooled on SMU. Rivals sucked up to the SMU alumni who didn't want to believe the truth and you obviously bought to Coaching Staff excuse makers. Here's Lewis stating even after the fiasco and shortly before signing date that they still wanted him and they would waiting on him to decide

Here is Lewis on January 25, 2012 saying the same thing every recruit says about the SMU coaching staff
"I'm still talking with the coaches over at SMU though. They have told me to take my time and don't worry too much about college decision. I like the fact that they have not put a lot of pressure on me. They have been around since Day 1, you have to respect that. I do too.

After greyshirting he is at Washington St. with Marks. Last I heard he is at about 5-9, 165. With a greyshirt, a player can then be redshirted too giving him 2 years to get his weight up. No school like SMU is going to give up a shot at a great athlete like that just because of his weight especially since we could play him in the slot with a bunch of similarly small receivers

Officially enrolled at Washington State as a WR in January 2013. Looks like he hasn't had any playing time at WR or special teams.East Coast Mustang wrote:Where is Lewis now?

I'm sure they are doing with him exactly what Mike Leach did with Adam James at Tech-coincidently-greyshirt him, redshirt him and he then still has 4 years of eligibility and will probably be 5-9, 180. I know Leach talked about the value of greyshirts and the strategy to redshirt them as well.

I wish we had a coach that understood the importance of redshirting, let alone greyshirting!Stallion wrote: I know Leach talked about the value of greyshirts and the strategy to redshirt them as well.
