Re: Florida WR Goulbourne Commits to SMUit is amazing all you hear on this board is constant [deleted] about June Jones and recruiting and then how a thread about landing a guy with multiple BCS offers turns into [deleted] about June Jones

Re: Florida WR Goulbourne Commits to SMUthere appears to be more than 2 sides to this recruiting story-I don't think I have a good grasp on this one-basically it boils down to whether we committed damaged goods whose recruitment sharply tailed off (ala Guinyard) or whether we committed a guy with 15 or whatever offers. Truth is probably somewhere in between. Again, I don't have a good handle on this one because he's from Florida and I've yet to see anyone report or post anything substantial on his high school performance or career. Can't find much-wish there was more information. I keep reminding these recruiting service guys that sometimes they rely too much on what some analyst thinks or what an analyst saw rather than raw athletic performance information. At least with Guinyard for example we knew he caught 108 passes in a single year. I think this guy may have caught 11 passes for 220 yards last year and I don't know about this year before he got hurt in I think mid October

Re: Florida WR Goulbourne Commits to SMU
His top three were us, Michigan State, and Indiana. So I think it's safe to say he picked us over offers from P5 schools 2005 PonyFans.com Rookie of the Year Award Recipient
Re: Florida WR Goulbourne Commits to SMULet's wait to see how he recovers from his injury before we start calling him the next Plaxico Burress. Unfair to put those expectations on him until he fully recovers and practices.

See Bryan McCann.
Re: Florida WR Goulbourne Commits to SMUI found this article with an interview.
http://smu.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1578557 "I knew SMU was the school for me when I injured my foot," stated Goulbourne. "After my injury a lot of people involved with my recruitment started showing their true colors. I understand at the end of the day it's a business, but SMU stuck by me since day one. They treated me like a five-star player and never backed off. The offer stood out because they bypassed their own state to come get me. That made it special to me. Now I'm going in to my college career with that chip on my shoulder." "We will play man to man and we will pick you up at the airport." - Larry Brown

Re: Florida WR Goulbourne Commits to SMUYou miss my point. McCann was offered by all the big boys and was an Oklahoma commit until his knee injury. Everyone backed off and he beat the odds and came back to be a great player for SMU, even making a pretty good contribution in the pros. That's the hope with this kid. In other words, I agree with you.
Re: Florida WR Goulbourne Commits to SMUI agree nothing wrong waiting for kids being strung out by bigger schools. I've said several times stay right in on some of those guys right up until signing date. i'd rather get the BCS late leftovers than a class full of recruits the BCS schools never considered.

Re: Florida WR Goulbourne Commits to SMUI'm really surprised our staff went after this guy, except for the fact that because we were in his top three, our staff felt like they could get him. The track record for this staff is not to go after anyone that is also wanted by the any of the bigger schools (unless they are already considering us). Either they don't want to outwork other recruiters or they've just decided that they'll put their energy into getting the best players no one else wants or knows about. Basically evaluating 2 star and low 3 stars to get the best of them.
Re: Florida WR Goulbourne Commits to SMU
So is he Julio Jones or Plaxico Burress? You are the only one throwing out NFL names as comparisons to him so I am really curious.

I am just looking at some of the reactions while the young man is hurt. Of course I am using hyperbole but I hope we do not place unfair expectations on him. He needs to take as much time as needed to recover and rehab. "We will play man to man and we will pick you up at the airport." - Larry Brown
