GG's StatusStarting a post that we can use to track anything on his status --- and I'm sure it will include its own share of rumor, innuendo, pseudoscience, etc . . . of course, I would welcome anyone with direct experience with his kind of injury posting here. With the little bit of research I did, it sounds like our best hope is that it's a relatively minor MCL sprain that takes 1-3 weeks to recover from. It's tough because GG has to think of his pro prospects - if he "rushes" back and suffers the same injury or worse, it's disastrous for him. I know he's a competitive/tough young man. As an SMU fan, I want him back for Houston if he's remotely healthy. If I'm him, I'm not rushing back. MAYBE UCF game if we lose to UH and if I'm feeling 100%. Best case, let's go beat UH without him (FOR him) and give him a sendoff he deserves by him having a monster game in a bowl blowout win.

Re: GG's StatusI'd be surprised if he's cleared to play on an MCL sprain six days after the injury occurred. Best case scenario he's back and ready to roll for UCF

I don't think I was insinuating him coming back for UH was a possibility.
Re: GG's StatusHas anyone heard when we might get MRI results? I assume that's something they'd do today
Re: GG's StatusI would doubt they would be in any hurry to disclose any info other than on a needs to know basis.

Re: GG's Status
I agree. I would keep it quiet until kickoff but it's fun for all of us to speculate/rumorize. (I have a feeling it's almost 100% he's not playing, but JJ will keep the door open -- either way, UH knows we are going to sling it regardless).
Re: GG's StatusAt this point, I'd just like to know who backs up Burcham. Kristisch (sp?)? Preston isn't cleared IIRC. Here is our official QB roster:
12 Neal Burcham 6-3 207 FR-RS Greenbrier, Ark. (Greenbrier) 13 Cayman Carter 6-0 200 FR-HS Newport Beach, Calif. (Corona del Mar) 17 Kolney Cassel 6-2 205 FR-HS Yakima, Washington (Eisenhower) 11 Garrett Gilbert 6-4 223 SR-1L Austin, Texas (Texas) 10 Austin Kent 6-6 220 FR-RS Happy Valley, Ore. (Lake Oswego) 14 Garrett Krstich 6-3 216 SO-SQ Carlsbad, Calif. (La Costa Canyon) 16 Conner Preston 6-0 193 SO-SQ Gardena, Calif. (Junipero Serra)
Re: GG's StatusI also find it amazing that Gilbert is the only QB on our current roster that is actually from the State of Texas.
Re: GG's StatusI would think it would be the other Garrett from reading past practice reports.

Re: GG's StatusI've read some positive things about the other Garrett. The 1 or 2 interviews I've seen of him, he reminds me a little bit of McDermott (relatively mature young man).
Re: GG's StatusNo way we'd bow Cassel's redshirt for one single game, right? IIRC, we only do that where significant PT is expected for at least 8 or 9 games, right?

with a crap arm? Derail the Frogs!
Re: GG's Status
Who has a crap arm? I've never seen the other Garrett throw, I just meant his demeanor and what I've read on practice reports. Frankly, I don't think any of these other guys are probably any good. We've been absolutely spoiled by GG this year (and the system installed by Mumme). We'll go back to offensive mediocrity again next year most likely. I, for once, have been absolutely giddy with the numbers GG has been putting up. It's been an historic year on that front.
