No, we "should" not have won that game, however, we "could" have won that game. The expected outcome was for us to lose, and we did, even though we put ourselves in a position to go into cincy and steal one. It's just like Rutgers, we "could" have won, but "should" not have.

Personally, I try to look at things with logic and rational and not blind and uniformed optimism. That entails making negative comments about things that are, in fact, going negatively. Shocking, I know. When good things happen or I think, based on my knowledge and the information presented, things will go well, I make positive comments. Once again, very shocking stuff here.

At the beginning of the season, I thought we would be sitting here at 5-5 with the exact wins and losses we've had. I thought we'd finish 5-7, and I will stand by that since this team has shown me nothing over the course of the season to prove that they can finish and beat a better team. Do I root against them? [deleted] no, I want them to win every game, but running around yelling "SMU will win. You can take it to the bank" doesn't mean it will happen. You sound like a fool when you say that about us playing a team with more talent, in their city, where we have traditionally done very poorly. Right now you should worry about SMU just being above average, because according to my calculations, we are mediocre, below average or maybe, MAYBE, average at best. Good programs don't win 6 games against teams with winning records in 6 years, below average and mediocre teams do.

How about you just focus on SMU trying to get to the point where we're good, before you start spouting off about SMU being elite. Elite is Alabama. You think that was built in a day? Hell, our model for success should be TCU. That took over a decade of constantly being a really good team and a year or two where they simply killed it. Being elite is hard to impossible to maintain. Being elite is going undefeated year after year. SMU can't even hang with our old rivals from P5 conferences. I'm not saying win against, I'm saying we're not even in the same zip code talent wise or schematically.

Being mediocre absolutely blows which I why I think it's time for a fresh start.

I agree. Step by step. It sucks that our old rival TCU beat us to the punch when we always had the recipe to win and we blew it. It will take a decade or so to get to that level, I agree. And it is time for a fresh start. I remember posting a link to an article about how one of TCU's coaches in the 1990's called for a fresh start in everything TCU did, and it became what their program is today. Now they have the prestige and are respected in their conference. (Talking to people from OU, Tech, Baylor...they don't take TCU lightly even in their down year) I want SMU to be respected, but that will come after we can demonstrate we can hold off our own in the field. 6 wins against teams with winning records in 6 years is horrible...it makes our 8-5 seasons look like crap and says a lot about our conference and the quality of teams we play. We haven't beaten any team with a winning record this year...(except maybe FCS Montana State) and that is embarrassing.
