I'm not rooting for the team to lose (never would), but I won't complain if it means June is gone. We need to start over at some point, and we can't afford to waste anymore time. The train has already left the station and we just need to hope that the administration, athletic department, and COC have enough juice left to catch our hand cart back up.

Unfortunately, I get the feeling that the powers that be love June. If he gets us into a bowl this year, they will say "wow, great job, we got into a bowl even with stiffer competition in the new conference" and if he doesn't they will say "well, we knew this was going to be a tough year with stiffer competition in the new conference". I think they just wanted to stop being cellar dwellers. I'm not so sure they are willing to "gamble" and try to push the program to the next level. I just have a feeling they are very happy with him: "4 straight bowls and upgrade in conference (although lack of attendance is an issue and that's a marketing problem mostly)".

About two or three years ago, I was briefly in an inner circle. And the word was that JJ and SMU had mutually decided on an amicable parting after THIS season. That was the word and the assumption I've been operating under. Has that changed? I don't know. But I do know that June has publicly stated he wants to coach for 5-7 more years before retiring to Hawaii. Would that be here? I don't know that either.

I think things have changed too much in the past 2-3 years for that to still be solid info ponyboy. I could certainly be wrong about that, but I feel like everything has been so year to year with this process. who knows. I suppose we will see soon enough
PS. Stiffer competition my as.s ojai. The teams we have beaten are laughable.

Dude, I hear you and agree with you. That's just the lame [deleted] excuse I hear/think they lean on.

We don't get a better draft pick for sucking, and, for the most part, the outside, uneducated world doesn't care what bowl game it is, or who we beat to get there. Nobody goes, hey, look, Frank Beamer took Virginia Tech to 23 straight bowl games, but the conference sucked and it was only a bunch of Belk bowls! They say, hey, 23 bowl games, that's great, especially years from now. Nobody is going to say "well they only beat sh*tty AAC teams and squeaked into the Bistro Bowl.
VT isn't the best comparison, they routinely make BCS games so that's a little different than them playing in the Belk Bowl (which they've never played in) every year. Now if our streak gets long enough people might not care what bowls we made but 5 is nothing especially when you're fielding mediocre teams and playing in mediocre bowls.
Hard to get to a 23 year streak if you don't first get to a 5 year streak.

True but it's not like we're getting anywhere close to 23 unless we step up and start fielding better teams, the majority of VTs bowl teams were ranked and won 9+ games in a power conference.

3 of our 5 wins have come against teams that were part of the Big East, that was supposedly much better and tougher competition has a combined 4-29 record and a 2-27 record when you take away the games they played against each other. That's putrid

I think we end up 5-7. Gilbert's injury is probably too much to overcome for this team right now. Burcham was okay in the second half against USF but they're awful. UH is either leading or at the very top in the country this year in turnover margin. I fully expect them to bring a lot of pressure and they'll likely get a turnover or two out of us on Friday.
UCF is just on another level IMO. Yes they played a bad game against Temple on the road but I doubt they'll have a repeat performance. If we have Gilbert back and we can get on them early maybe we can get the win. That said, I just don't think we've got the horses to beat UCF.
Back off Warchild seriously.

Agreed. And it sucks because I want to beat UH SO bad.

2-3 weeks ago, I would have said we are definitely headed for a 5-7 finish, but recent weeks have convinced me that almost anyone can beat anyone in the AAC. Should be an interesting final 2 games. I expect Burcham to see a lot of pressure Friday. I assume the game plan is anticipating that. We'll see how well Burcham (and our WRs) can read defenses and how quickly they can react
