Yup, really sucks. That was a game the team needed to have. Needed it for the tourney resume, they were every bit as good, if not better than a Top 25 caliber Virginia team. Really blows they couldn't close it but onto the next one here.

Virginia was also hitting 71% from 3 point line when I checked late in game

They definitely had some 3 point shooters.

Despite huge foul trouble we played them quite evenly and had a very good chance to win late in the game.

I talked with some UVA fans after and they felt that both teams had bad games. I told them you won't be the first team we surprise this year.

One fan, 15 minutes into the first, was so frustrated he stood up and yelled, "c'mon just FINISH these people!" They obviously hadn't done their homework.

The refs just called another foul and UVA just hit another three.

Despite that, we were down to the wire with a sure Tourney team (probable 6 seed)

Our 2 losses came from teams that got red hot from 3 point land. Hard to beat ANYBODY shooting 60%+. With a loss by 3, all they needed to do was miss 1 or 2 and we're right there. Tough loss. Lots of positives to build on. But hated that we lost. Need to bounce back and beat out the rest of our OOC (STARTING with aTm!).

I felt the real reason we lost was the officiating. I know they were bad for both sides, and they called almost an equal number of fouls, but UVA shot 8 more free throws if you don't count the final foul on Harris. There were two calls though that made the difference down the stretch. The first was the out of bounds call where the refs conferred twice to overturn giving the ball to SMU. The second was the shooting foul with the shot clock expiring at the end of the game. I did not see any contact at all on that play, but it brought UVA to the line one more time. I know we need to expect this new way of officiating going forward, but I really felt there was a disparity in how the refs called the game in the paint.

need to defend the perimeter better than we did against UVA; there re plenty of good 3 point shooting teams out there and any of them will give us fits if we continue to allow teams to light us up from the 3 point line
