SMU vs directional bumfuk U isn't really exciting to a lot of people care about in my generation. I care about SMU, but watching us is just so brutal more often than not.
And [deleted] at anyone on this board about their loyalty makes about as much sense as putting your balls in a blender because you don't want to have kids. It would argue its "don't let the door hit you on the way out" fans like you that are more of a turn off. You say big tex is entitled for not showing undying support for a crappy football team? Aren't you acting entitled for expecting him to do so?
Reality is, until we win, and win against teams that people have heard of, the stadium will continue to get more and more empty and people are just tired of being invested in something that the head coach doesn't even care about. It's depressing to people.
My point- it's naive to say you're giving up on SMU football or not renewing season tickets because we might miss a bowl game for the first time since 2008. Most of us here lived through the [deleted] era of SMU football and we're still here, so yeah, the c/o 2010 kids can kiss my [deleted] if they're "giving up" on the program, not renewing season tickets, whatever. I'm aware that JJ has checked out and we need a new coach. With that said, we have A&M and TCU coming to Ford in addition to our conference slate- hell, if these 24 year olds were smart they'd keep their season tickets and sell them to Sand Aggies for one game and pay for the whole season. I'm not advocating selling tickets to opposing fans, but it appears the newbies have checked out anyways
Why should it matter what you have or haven't done in the past? When did fandom become a [deleted] measuring contest? And I can promise you he's not supposedly jumping ship because we're not going bowling, it's because we look completely and utterly helpless on the football field and the "leaders" of our school and team couldn't give any less of a [deleted]. You blame a guy for wanting change and wanting to have his team be better? So, instead of clamoring for change from the status of mediocrity, by doing the only real tangible thing he can, what would you suggest? Continue to support our esteemed leadership for continue to do the same things, but somehow expect different results? That's insanity....
Yeah, you still support the guys on the field who wear an SMU jersey regardless of your opinion of the HC. That's what I'm going to do, and I think that's the case for most genuine fans (however many there may be). There's six home games a year, it's not like you're committing to a marriage or something. If you're going to boycott the games because of JJ, you should similarly boycott the Blvd as well- if not, the "esteemed leadership" in place might think you support the status quo....by the way, can we stop with the shots at the "leadership?" RGT has done everything that could be asked of him 2008-present, he's not the problem, and we have wealthy donors footing the bill for our $2M/year lame duck HC. Many schools would kill for that esteemed leadership in place. Bottom line- JJ needs to go, hopefully the CoC agrees with me

Going to games requires time, effort, money and there's always opportunity cost. Not saying it's right, but these are things you need to consider. Just dismissing it as "it's inly 6 games a year" sounds a little ridiculous to me.
Trying to say that anyone who's on this board is not a genuine fan is just naive. You sound as ridiculous as the esteemed mayor of Toronto rob ford. I only made it to 4 games this year, am I not a genuine fan? Am I a bad fan because I don't support our programs direction with blinders on? Turning up your nose to people who don't have what your perceive as your same level of commitment is childish and represents the elitist attitude that plagues SMU that will ultimately keep us from being embraced by Dallas.
And no I won't stop taking shots at Turner. I'm not a fan of him or most of his policies and I think his lack of commitment to athletics is what may ultimately doom this school to being left out in the end

I think if you can take the time and effort to sign up for this message board and post, you should care enough to go to the games and support the team. We can agree to disagree, though. I understand sometimes things arise and I don't demand that everyone be at every single game but speaking for myself I go to every game I can make. Turner was putrid from 95-08. Yes, admissions were a [deleted], but he did get a beautiful on campus stadium built. Without that, we would really be up a creek without a paddle. My point is, the administration hasn't been to blame in 5+ years, you can blame them for not getting it going earlier like TCU did in the early 2000's, but five years later there's no reason why we shouldn't be competing for AAC titles and going head-to-head with Baylor, Tech, and TCU for recruits. That's not on the admin in 2013

Admissions are fine now, but we could still use some more athlete friendly courses, and
isn't it ironic that june fought to loosen the admissions and is lazy with recruiting.

Hopefully you're in my section as I want to buy all the seats around mine so I can fill it with people who act like they are at a football game and not an opera. Redpony I agree I put the lack of really wanting to get back to a top level of competition on RGT and the administration, that needs to change as much as the coaching staff. Jones took us out of the Wilderness and for that I will be eternally grateful, but now we need to go compete at a P5 level not to be totally irrelevant 10 years from now.
No such luck. Class of '10 drunken hooligan here. I just can't do it anymore; it's like going to church. I've got so many better things to spend that money on...
Something wrong with church? Lol

Students/young alumni like yourself and your attitude are probably one of the biggest impediments to getting SMU back to where it needs to be
Yeah, it's MY attitude that's keeping the stadium empty...
It's the 0-12 seasons and losing badly that keep the stadium empty. People don't cheer for teams that get blown out/shut out

THIS Football is meant to be entertaining. Watching SMU football is sometimes painful. I stopped drinking before halftime on the Houston game...it was excruciating to watch our team playing like a high school squad with no leadership, no effort.

IMO, the problem with this poll is the focus on season ticket sales. Sales will likely be up (with A&M & TCU). Attendance is what will nose dive post A&M and TCU.
