Re: Hey Russell
But last year we actually saw him shoot us in games
Re: Hey RussellLast year he shot a tad under 40% from the field and 32% from 3. This season he is shooting 35% and 20% respectively.
He shot 2/9 against A&M, 3/12 against UVA and 3/8 against Arky. So he has had bad shooting nights in arguably our biggest games. Give him a chance to find his shot before conference play. If his shots are good shots then they are bound to start falling. If he can´t find his shot by conference play, then consider decreasing his minutes. N. Moore has taken 9 more shots than Russell but shot 50% (he is > 50% from field and 3 on season which is absurd for a PG).
Re: Hey Russell
We all get that, but he's also our second best handler and 2nd best perimeter defender. Also has a knack for key boards and gets to the line in an era where that may matter more than shooting percentage. Ultimately, we need nick to play better for us to be better. Benching him doesn't do that
Re: Hey RussellIs it just me or is Kennedy taking way to many outside shots? It seems like if he gets the ball at the top of the key and no one is on him then he takes that shot. I would assume that is not the shot LB wants him taking.

Re: Hey Russell
Who?
Re: Hey RussellKennedy actually has a decent 15 to 20 foot jumper. He did well with those shots in the practice I saw.

Re: Hey RussellHe missed all the ones i saw him take in the UVA and AM game. It seems like LB is not thrilled either when he slings one up.
Re: Hey Russellhe took a bad three in the TAMU game that undoubtedly LB didn't like. He does as 86 says take a lot if the mid range jumpers. They weren't falling early but I think they are starting to fall now. He has a soft touch on those so I think that is his preferred shot. Re: Hey Russell
He had been doing pretty good in the other games imo. Maybe he was just a little nervous considering the magnitude of those games. I am sure LB will fine tune the situation by conference time. Last edited by SMU 86 on Sun Dec 01, 2013 12:26 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Hey Russell
Not to pick on ebrooks, but I wanted to check on the accuracy of my post and it turns out he has .474 shooting percentage. Better than I suspected. But to ebrooks defense that is the lowest % of our big men. That may be the gist behind his post. He missed a lot of shots in those early games - and I contend Moreira did as well- but is coming around in his shot. Plus I may be wrong but if he hits those it will open up some off loads in close. Re: Hey RussellMaybe I was combining the timing of his shot selection with the percentage of the ones he made. Again, to me it seemed like he missed several outside shots early in the shot clock when maybe we could have found him a shot that he is better at making like around the rim. Dont get me wrong i think he has played great in the games i have been able to watch but this thread was about outside shooting so i chimed in. On a side not his free throw percentage is .541 and the shots im talking about are from behind the free throw line. I guess my point is in a close game Kennedy from 20 feet out is not the best shot to take.
Re: Hey RussellRussell might not be a great shooter, but he's not bad (would you rather see Ryan take his shots?)and there's a reason he and Nic Moore lead this team in minutes played. Russell takes care of the ball (he and Nic both have pretty close to a 2:1 assist to turnover ratio which we haven't seen around here in a while).
Re: Hey Russelli actually would rather see Ryan take his shots as of lately.
That said - i understand he brings more than shooting to our table. I just think he needs some time with a shooting coach to figure out whats wrong.
Re: Hey Russellwhat's wrong is that Russell isn't really a very good 3 point shooter and he wasn't last year, either. He's shooting 42% inside the arc and is hitting 85% of his FTs. Those aren't bad percentages and remember, he's not taking the number of shots he did (out of necessity) last year. I think that's the same reason we haven't seen Frazier light it up yet. Shooters get better when they get lots of shots. Most guys get hot in streaks, but they may also have "hot spots" on the floor and just aren't getting enough of those looks.
