Myles Turner Comparison

Postby StandUp » Sun Dec 01, 2013 7:58 pm

Can someone who has seen Myles Turner play tell me a little something about his game? Not living in Dallas, I don't know much about his game. Is he more of a PF or C? Does he have a good back to the basket game? Who would be a good College or NBA Comparison. Listed at 6' 10" 225lbs

Hoopmanx has probably seen him the most. He should be on the board sometime tonight.

He is a Center, but could play the 4.

Turner's height and more importantly reach enable him to control games defensively. He has shut down some of the country's best interior scorers, using his length and timing to swat and alter shots. But he's no one-trick horse. Turner possesses a diverse and highly skilled offensive package that makes him a complete player. He shoots well from the short- and medium-ranges, uses the backboard effectively and even hits a few threes.

I think that's a fair assessment, but I don't see him as a center at all, and I doubt his people do. He's getting closer to a face up 4 than a true 5, but it depends on system I suppose. Either way, talented kid that would look great w markus and yanick

Wow, my mustang pants go crazy when I read this stuff. When Moreira and Kennedy are on the floor together we are so strong on both sides.

So is there a player y'all can compare him to? A long defender with medium to long range?

Does anyone have any NBA Comparisons for Myles Turner?
Examples:
Chris Bosh (Miami Heat)
Dwight Howard (Houston Rockets)
Marcus Camby (New York Knicks)
DeAndre Jordan (Los Angeles Clippers)
Andre Drummond (Detroit Pistons)

Does anyone have any College Comparisons for Myles Turner (past or present, other than SMU Players)?
Examples:
Marcus Camby (UMASS)
Anthony Davis (Kentucky)
Adreian Payne (Michigan State)
Willie Cauley-Stein (Kentucky)
Isaiah Austin (Baylor)

I've seen him compared to Chris Bosh. Most of the 2015 mock drafts have him going 1st or 2nd overall. Here's nbadraft.net's profile page. They have him going 1st in the '15 draft, with Mudiay going 2nd. They also have a few nice mix tapes of him

How insanely crazy would that be if SMU had the top two picks in the NBA? Ok, I'm gonna lay this pipe down now.

pass that pipe over to me - because that is exactly what I was thinking! #1 and #2 picks from SMU ? We would instantly be UNLV - hopefully without the infractions!

Nobody has ever compared him to Brad Davis or Mike Izzulino. Pretty exciting stuff.

If he is projected as the 1st or 2nd player drafted what would you think?

Rebel, in the past I would agree with you but there seems to be a slight shift in that thinking. Marcus Smart would've been a top 5 pick this last draft but chose to return to Okie St. There are rumors that Jabari Parker may consider returning to Duke for a chance to play with their excellent 2014 recruiting class. Parker is a little different in that I believe he comes from an upper class family and the rush to collect NBA millions is not as pressing as it would be for some others. That said, I would still be very surprised if Turner or Mudiay stayed longer than one year, but it is not a guarantee.
