I'm sorry, but I am not a cynic in life - I am a very happy person. But my life and SMU football are two very different topics.
And I'm sorry. I don't mean to imply you're living an unhappy life or anything. My point is that Doak's generation , not the SMU community itself, was just a thousand times less cynical than we are today. That's bad. We ought to all prefer their outlook over our culture of cynicism these days. The old values say you support your team no matter what. You never predict a loss, even if you may internally find it a large probability.

Burcham was nearly the sole reason we lost the UH Game, he was awful and I have little hope for him in the future. Especially given the comments about his work ethic by the coaching staff.
What were the comments about his work ethic? I missed that
JJ said he was unprepared because he hadn't put in the time studying and putting himself in a position to play should GG go down. This was said earlier in the season before GG went down and again the week he did go down.

Not sure why anyone would want to witness a blowout in 30 degree weather. Go to the basketball game.

Football is meant to be played in cold weather and just like Tulsa last year, why throw in the towel before the kickoff. There's always a chance, although I would feel much better if GG would play, 1 leg or not. Go 'Stangs!

I can see your point ponyboy. Listen, we are all fans of SMU on this site and we aren't the problem, so we should stop the in-fighting -- there just aren't that many of us! I will root like hell for the ponies on Saturday, and they are surely capable of a suprise win to get bowl-eligible (like the Tulsa game last year). I hope we pull the upset and land in the St. Pete bowl so I can enjoy the warm weather. Do I think it is likely? No. But I will hope. Pony up.

I think this, right here, is why I feel so low coming into the UCF game. Do I hope the Mustangs realize what is at stake and leave everything on the field this week? Hell yes, and if they do I think they win. But it was on the line against a very beatable UH team last week, and they showed up flat, unprepared, and unmotivated which made that game so frustrating I had to turn it off or risk breaking my brother-in-law's TV. I've NEVER walked away from or turned off a Mustangs game before, but last week simply became unbearable for me. I am praying with every fiber of my being that everyone took that poor performance to heart and doesn't want to end their year that way, but we've seen this lack of effort and preparation virtually all season so I am not sure expecting anything different is reasonable. Yet I will do so anyway because it is the school and team that I love and will always wish success upon. Prove everyone wrong (including me), fellas, and beat the [Patterson] out of UCF!

UCF is projected to play in the Sugar Bowl against Auburn. If SMU were to beat UCF on Saturday, it would be HUGE!!! Just imagine the positive publicity for SMU on ESPN, et al. I sincerely hope it happens.
That having been said, I would not bet the farm on an SMU win. But, on Saturday, I will will wear my SMU cap, and I will follow the game, and win or lose, I will be glad my degrees are from SMU and not UCF.

Wow, I just witnessed my first "kiss to make up" on PF. This is amazing! I was sure this wasn't going to happen. Thanks ponyboy and ponyinNC! I'm happy to see there's at least a couple people here that are willing to talk things out, rather than personal attacks about "head in sand", "mediocrity", "clueless", and all of the other misc b.s. degredation.

I want it to happen as well but it's Championship Saturday so there won't be much positive publicity especially if Louisville beats Cincy tomorrow and UCF locks up the title.
