Re: The Misery Index Week 14
I thought about this when June was hired and we gratefully ceded financing his contract to the C of C. I can handle that-but it should be accepted that SMU has essentially ceded power to extend that contract or essentially fire the head coach because it was a 5 year Commitment (originally). If it is going to be extended-the Commitment needs to be extended too. No money-no Coach June.

It is never entertaining to fire or even discuss firing a colleague. So not wanting to fire someone you like is not entirely unexpected. I know they didn't ask PFs about firing him. They would have gotten different results.
The "Is SMU fully committed" comment sounds like the beginning of the CYA/Face saving from the staff. Speaking off the record. We couldn't make this work because the school wouldn't let us.
This.
I talked to two former (pre-DP) Mustangs this week. I was surprised when they both went off on June. Surprised because I thought much of this vitriol was limited to the hyper-reactionary handful that post on PonyFans. Would be interested to hear the perspective from some post-DP players.
I am very close to some of the people who work with our student-athletes on the academic side (and they are big-time Mustang fans especially for being on the "academics side of the fence"). Each has had nothing but the highest praise for June and his staff. The positive changes they been able to drive, the improvements in the support programs, and the obvious, fundamental care and concern his staff has for their players is probably what colors my general positive impression of June.
So yeah, I think people within the University and the Athletic Dept. who are probably more familiar with the obstacles and challenges really do appreciate him and what they've accomplished. Us fans on the outside who primarily see the questionable recruiting and the on-the-field results and are still stinging over the AZ fiasco are the ones turning up the heat. I think the writer is probably right on the money, except for the fact that we're probably not playing better so much as the second half of our schedule is not TTech, A&M and TCU.

We were also ranked dead last in Texas. Unacceptable.

Yup. Even my friends who only go to the blvd talk about how much they hate June and want him gone. It's pretty bad....
You listen to losers? Losers are those that only go the the blvd. Jeeez people, it really is not a hard concept to grasp. Commit to the team or get the heck out of the way. No excuses!

Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you why no one wants to be a SMU fan.

Really? Because I speak the truth? Exactly which part of my post do you find a problem with? Last time I checked, a fan supports the team by actually going to the game. What good does a fan do out on the boulevard during the game. That was my point. Sounds like someone is a little definsive.

You're calling people losers because they don't want to go watch a crappy team against other crappy teams that no one cares about. There are people that were fans and were excited but aren't die hard and calling them losers because they don't go to every single game just gives off the perception of the elitist and entitled attitude that stereotypes SMU. Why should they go? We suck. Would it be nice if everyone on the blvd went to the game? Yeah, it'd be absolutely awesome, but saying people are "losers" because they don't just alienates people. It don't get it. From a business perspective, you should be welcoming of anyone that sets foot in our empty and sad looking stadium and not calling them out for not blindly supporting a doormat of college football.
Very few outside of the people on this board have that kind of blind enthusiasm for our program, or any sub par program for that matter. Maybe I'm insinuating too much from your post, who knows.

I wouldn't call blackout pony's friends 'losers', but I certainly wouldn't call them 'fans' either. I think by definition 'fans' excludes fair-weather, bandwagon jumpers.

From a "business perspective", PonyFans members wouldn't be out-right bashing the players, coaches, and administration. After all, isn't that typically bad for business?

Re: The Misery Index Week 14
Yes, I certainly apologize for calling your friends losers. I will still stand by the opinion that they are not fans. IF they were fans they would be in the stadium and not on the Blvd. during the game. Those that are on the Blvd. during the game are nothing but candyass socialites. Something SMU seems to have more than plenty of. Just tired of the lameness. And I get it that they don't like losing. News flash….no one does. You think that those on the blvd. during the game should get a pass because they don't like losing? I will not give them a pass. Sorry, just tired of the excuses.

Re: The Misery Index Week 14
I guess these "fans" assume we will always have a shot to compete and so they can check out until we do
What the more knowlegege fans realize is that the program is really circling the drain from a nationally competitive perspective
The same "fans" will then complain about their Homcoming at the SMU v Evansville soccer game or Souland Conference Title
The ones that support the school at every game realize GAME ON-now. Or SMU football as we have known it simply can't survive the coming changes
