It has been way too much of a "wine and cheese crowd" at SMU games for way, way too long. When I go to UNC, USC or Clemson games, it is amazing to see how passionate and rowdy the students get. Do the blue hairs complain at SEC games because the kids have signs or yell or cheer? Of course not! They are right there alongside the students in their pursuit of wins and championships.
SMU crowd needs to wake the F' up. Yell, get rowdy, bring signs, whatever. Anyhting is better than the Ford Morgue with old farts and young kids doing somersaults on the knoll.
And before you bash me for saying this, I do have a young child so I understand having a "family friendly" place to take your kid is important. BUT PERHAPS A COLLEGE FOOTBALL GAME SHOULD NOT BE THAT PLACE!
I wonder how many children were at the Iron Bowl last saturday doing flips? ummm...None.
+10000000000000000000 No children in the lawn! When we start yelling and getting rowdy the kids and their parents start looking at us like we are crazy! Ford is our house! GET LOUD OR GET OUT!!

I agree. Where were all of these people the 20 seasons before June got here? I am very disappointed in our recruiting, but we are still in much better shape than we were six seasons ago.

Yeah how would it look on ESPN is a very good point, last thing we want to do is hurt the program. We all want to see it succeed.
In regards to we are spoiled and we haven't seen the bad years and should be grateful we win some games, I agree and think that's to this programs advantage that we are spoiled. The young fans have only seen us in crappy bowls and are bored with that already, we all want more success and demand more. We are the "I want it now" generation, for better or worse, and we want success now and quick. Or at the very least some hype for the future (ie: basketball). I think some of you old timers are happy we are at least winning sometimes and aren't in the bad years anymore. But I think that attitude doesn't get us to any national relevance ever. To build a fan base, especially in the student body, you have to be able to sell a bright future (basketball), and football does not have that with this current coach, and we want that displeasure to be heard. I say all this with the upmost respect to everyone here who is a longtime fan/booster, and even with respect to Jones for pulling us out of the dark years. The students owe him a lot because so far we have never known anything other than SMU playing in a bowl game at the end of year.
I agree it's not at all the players fault, and don't want it to be viewed that way. I have buddies on the team (some that are frustrated with June as well) and I agree its very unclassy and no way I would do it if we were alumni, but come on thats what college kids do. I think a kid can get away with that kind of stuff a lot more then an adult. Same with the difference in how students yell at opposing teams and how alumni do.
Example: If a 40 year old guy starts yelling at some guy on the field about his mom (or whatever your taunt is) thats weird. If an 18 year old punk does it, right or wrong, its at least a lot more accepted.
This class of 85 old timer IS NOT happy with the state of our football program. This is not the SMU I chose to attend and it is not a school I would chose to attend today. Fire Turner first, then June.
From the class of '87. (Oh how tough that was.) I am with you 100% MV. Go Ponies!

This is the attitude that the younger generation of fans can't stand no offense. I feel for the older people that had to sit through 20 years of garbage, im a diehard fan of my teams to and have had to sit through seasons where some of my teams have sucked (like the Sf Giants baseball team until the last few years). But to me, a school like smu that breeds success shouldn't be mediocre at football. I love going to this university, but when I mentioned I go to SMU back home I dont like people relating it to us winning the hawaii bowl and birmingham bowls that no one cares about. People should expect results when you pay a coach 2 million dollars a year. And I dont count results as beating garbage teams to sneak into low level bowls. Sorry for sounding like an optimist but I see SMU as a resource rich school that should be rattling off 10 win seasons in this conference. What drives me crazy is that mid majors like boise and fresno can win 10 games a year when they are in small towns that cant pay their coaches, why are we winning 5 games?!

Here's the deal: We aren't improving. This program isn't on the way up. Winning organizations only care about always getting better. Who gives a [gary patterson] about the decade of traumatizing football you had to watch before the near-decade of traumatizing I've had to watch? Saying "it's better than it was then" is stupid. Fans deserve the right to [gary patterson] anytime the improvement arrow is not up. That's the way competitive people think. The frustration young people have with this board and our administration is that not many appear to think this way.

Yes. And are we even much improved from before? Honestly, were not making a bowl this year most likely, which is the same place we were 6 years ago. Next year looks like an even bigger step back too. If you want to talk about this with me more Ill move to section 104 in the second half when ill most likely be one of like twelve people under 25 in the stadium.

Exactly. I'm sick of SMU obsessing over how bad we used to be. WHO CARES?! I don't care what it was like watching football in Ownby, I don't care about Pye, all that matters is whether the program is improving. The old guys are still flagellating themselves over stuff that happened before I was born and then wonder why the young people aren't more involved.

I'm too young and poor for 104...Red and Blue Army is trying to set up shop in 110. I feel for you undergrads because I was exactly in your same situation in 2006...absolutely disgusted with SMU football...after posting on here awhile, I realized that whining on PonyFans was pointless. I decided to create a militant wing of PonyFans and so I created Red And Blue Army. Basically, of the team wasn't going to entertain me, I was going to make Ford Stadium entertaining for myself. My goal has been to collect as many fans together that feel the same way, group together and go out and do something about it. I just get tired of the non-proactive-ness on here...

Thanks, I really appreciate that. I've felt and been pretty ineffectual on the SMU-front since this birth of my son in January, I'm afraid. I really need help from a couple of local guys to help continue to grow this thing. Let's stop griping about attendance and go out make our own seating section so kick-[gary patterson] and full of SMU spirit, I doesn't matter how well we're playing, we're still having fun. If that's how you feel, tell me your SMU/Ford Stadium dream and let's talk about how a band of brotherhood can make it happen! Yeah!

Congrats on the arrival of your son SMUer! My wife and I had our first in March - a daughter, Caroline Kate. I know just how you feel - this past 8 months has gone by so quickly!

Fatherhood is happiness but man this past year has been a blur. Congrats to you and your wife as well. The key now is to not force our kids to love SMU; we have to find a way to make them think going there was their idea.

I had my Red and blue scarf out and ready to go for Saturday but Alas! I cannot make it down due to the weather in Arkansas forecast.

I'm starting to question my trip as well. I may try to beat the "ice storm" to Dallas and book a room somewhere.
