Thanks, I really appreciate that. I've felt and been pretty ineffectual on the SMU-front since this birth of my son in January, I'm afraid. I really need help from a couple of local guys to help continue to grow this thing. Let's stop griping about attendance and go out make our own seating section so kick-[gary patterson] and full of SMU spirit, I doesn't matter how well we're playing, we're still having fun. If that's how you feel, tell me your SMU/Ford Stadium dream and let's talk about how a band of brotherhood can make it happen! Yeah!

SMUer im super disappointed the "red blue" and even "S-M-U" chant has disappeared this year. We need to keep working on that. Possibly for basketball games? Do y'all have a presence in moody?

I agree. Where were all of these people the 20 seasons before June got here? I am very disappointed in our recruiting, but we are still in much better shape than we were six seasons ago.

This is the attitude that the younger generation of fans can't stand no offense. I feel for the older people that had to sit through 20 years of garbage, im a diehard fan of my teams to and have had to sit through seasons where some of my teams have sucked (like the Sf Giants baseball team until the last few years). But to me, a school like smu that breeds success shouldn't be mediocre at football. I love going to this university, but when I mentioned I go to SMU back home I dont like people relating it to us winning the hawaii bowl and birmingham bowls that no one cares about. People should expect results when you pay a coach 2 million dollars a year. And I dont count results as beating garbage teams to sneak into low level bowls. Sorry for sounding like an optimist but I see SMU as a resource rich school that should be rattling off 10 win seasons in this conference. What drives me crazy is that mid majors like boise and fresno can win 10 games a year when they are in small towns that cant pay their coaches, why are we winning 5 games?!

Yep doesn't matter where we've been, doesn't matter where we are now, all the matters is we aren't where we should be, and how do we get there? by changing things up because its not working right now. Be the best or don't even try, don't half [deleted] anything just because its better now then it used to be.

There's not enough people to do those cheers effectively. We need to start doing those cheers

1) Kickoff: ooooooooooooooooooooooooooo WAAH! S-M-U 'STAAAAANGS!!!
2) S-M-U, S-M-U
3) REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED!! BLUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUEE!! (one side of stadium says red the other side blue)

That's just a start...discuss

I'd be all about that.
Went to the Florida State vs Florida game this past week.
Both sets of fans have really cool traditions/slogans/sayings; all of which makes me envious.

I also think Moody may be the place to start traditions like "red, Blue" "S-M-U". Theres less people, and the sound bounces off the walls. We can make that a big thing every game, and then by the time its football season most of the SMU fans will already know what to do when the students start the cheers or whatever

coloradoStang: This year has been a struggle but I agree we need to keep it going. Last year I was able to make contacts with the Mustang XI and was able to kinda sorta coordinate it. I also was able to work with the cheerleading director and they helped. Attendance in my section has declined markedly during the season and the student section isn't doing much better...I feel like we need to pick specific times during the game to do this stuff...and coordinate it with the band so we aren't chanting over "Peruna"...we've tried to make Red! Blue! a first-defensive-series-of-the-third-quarter tradition...S-M-U is cooler but we need queues:

1. Cheerleaders have the signs for Red, Blue, S, M, U...we need them to go to the appropriate side just before the queue
2. The same side should start it, I think the students should start the chant (higher concentration, easier to organize)
3. Cheerleaders need to help the cause by holding the signs..possibly project it on the video board too

I agree. Let's do it...unfortunately RBA doesn't really have a section in Moody yet...we are all spread out...I'll reach out to PonyUpTV and see if he'll help us pull it off

When should we do it? At the half and before top-off?

Totally agreed on all points. I was on Mustang XI one of the first times we ever did it with y'all and it actually worked decent. I've since not been very involved with the group. Not sure who to talk to about a video board but that's a good idea. My fraternity brother is dating a cheerleader so thats are in there.

Like I said I think it would be easy to start in Moody during a timeout or something. Do y'all have a spot? or does anyone know is there a general place for young alumni to sit?

The red blue chant is really good during tv timeouts and when the other team is forced to take a timeout. I kind of equate that to the MIZ.....ZOU chant which has haunted me for years. hahaha

Don't get me wrong, I am not happy with our results this season. Our recruiting is particularly depressing, but on the other hand we are better than we were at any point in a long time. My only disagreement is that we are not a P5 school, so we need to use our resources wisely. If that means keeping June one more year and then having extra cash to pay a better staff the next season so be it. I guess I am just more patient than most of you. For the record I am 31.

Now that I think about it the straight SMU chant is more like the MIZZOU chant. Red blue is good too though.
