You're right. Not literal death bed. But what would have happened if we'd averaged 115 Sagarin like we did under Bennett's best years but from 2008 to the present? Answer: CUSA with NTSU, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, and Middle Tennessee State. That's football. Where would our bball program be? Along with those same schools and with no Larry Brown, no Keith Frazier, no Emmauel Mudiay and no hope for the future.

JJ made us real and relevant again. End of story.

Ron Meyer came in and from Day 1 made our biggest obstacle-Dallas-our calling card. Big D is opportunity not a problem. Its a goldmine with more Division 1A prospects than any metro area in the Country. See Miami Hurricanes. Just need a Head Coach and Staff that can sell it like Larry Brown
Ron Meyer's philosophy about recruiting was: "Draw a line from Gainesville to San Antonio. Go east to Beaumont and back north to Texarkana. And finally back to Gainesville." Said if he could get kids just from everything inside that map. He could win a majority of the time.
Agree completely about selling DALLAS. Waco, Lubbock, College Station= all terrible places to live.

We may not sell out a 80,000 seat stadium every Saturday, but sell these guys on living in one of the most exciting cities in the country for four years. Have Deion and Eric Dickerson on the sidelines for recruiting visits. Have Mark Cuban there, Dubya, Jerry Jones if he'll come (his wife is on the board), point is- pull out all the stops with local Dallas celebs.

We're not going to win recruiting battles against Tech, Baylor, TCU all of the time, but we need to do it sometimes to be competitive

I agree that without June, we would be stuck in CUSA, so at least we're in CUSA 2.0 with some teams that some people somewhere have heard about as opposed to no one hearing about anyone in our conference.

I wouldn't say "relevant" per se, but I would we have been dragged up from the depths of hell to a place that I think 6 years ago, before the massive realignment, we would have taken it. While it's not exactly where we want to be, and I do think the train has left the station for the most part, its better than where we were. I thank June for that. Now, he needs to go back to Hawaii and work on his movie.

actually the original quote was something to the effect that he could win a national championship by dominating recruiting in the DFW Metroplex alone. Hyperbole yes-but not much different than the strategy of Scnellenberger in Miami who first drew the line in South Florida
"With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris

When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.

Have a hard time believing that having Dubya, Jerry Jones & wife and Mark Cuban at a game would impact attendance at all. If they were there, would any of them ever leave the suite that RGT uses? It'll be interesting to see what happens with both Dickerson and Deion if JJ gets fired/leaves SMU as far as involvement. Has Deion even been to a game this year?

Yes, I believe Deion has been to a game to watch his son. And I wasn't saying have them as much for attendance as I was have them there for when recruits visit. Just play up the Dallas angle

I think JJ made major changes in the program this year. He brought in Mumme and radically changed up the offense. We added badly needed elements of the Air Raid Offense meaning crossing and vertical routes and he implemented the hurry up offense. I think these improvements helped tremendously and will give him credit for actually changing things. I had little problem with the offense and the way games were called. I would have liked to have had more blitzing by the D in many game situations as the D line simply could not pressure the QB. The problem will always remain that JJ does not recruit, the staff does a lousy job following up with recruits, too many project kids are signed and there is no recruiting coordinator. The result is that no matter what schemes and systems you use they cannot work without the talent needed to run them.

You would think, Pocono, that - that would b apart of his contract - recruiting??? The only coach in college sports that gets paid $2m annually & doesn't have to recruit!!! What a deal - for the coaching staff!!!
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.
