Great article on Cutcliffe and what he's done at Duke. Worth the read

OOC Schedule: N.C. Central?, Memphis, Troy and Navy (won them all). Now they are Top 25 and in a championship game. I guess that's called Mediocrity, but most fans probably just pay attention to the Polls.

Well when you play NC State, Miami, VT, UNC, and UVA (even though they sucked this year) on your schedule it's about the same.

Point is, we need some relevant OOC games for financial purposes and for the casual fan to have a clue that we still field a football program. It would be nice to win these games every once in awhile

Cutcliffe was hired in Dec 2007 for $1.5 million.

Duke's Record
  • 2008: 4-8
  • 2009: 5-7
  • 2010: 3-9
  • 2011: 3-9
  • 2012: 6-7
  • 2013: 10-2

So, under his tenure, they've faced softer OOC opponents, and have amassed less wins, but are finally doing something productive.
Am I wrong for feeling the irony?

I appreciate what June has done here, but considering the circumstances, what Cutcliffe has done is more impressive

I like Cutcliffe and I'm impressed with what he's done at Duke, but this may very well be another Wake Forest/Grobe situation where he has a one-time blip on the screen. Congrats to him, but we'll have to see how this thing works out.

At the very least, he seems genuinely happy to be there and has really embraced the school for what it is and not tried to make it something it's not, like covering it in leis or trying to get rid of the mascot.... Sorry, couldn't help myself

Hawaii recently went back to calling themselves the "Rainbow Warriors" and their old rainbow unis. JJ wiped out their historic identity when he was there: mascot, fight song, team name, uniforms etc. I guess JJ wanted to do a similar change at SMU but we didn't take the bait...

Grobe made his 2006 ACC Championship run with a team that returned 18 starters. In 2007 ten of them left and a long, slow decline began. The same thing could happen to Duke, but there are reasons to think it may not. Tons of skill players return, and lots of the holes will be filled by backups who are in their third or fourth season in Durham, unlike the true or RS frosh who used to get forced in too soon at Duke. We'll find out in a year or three! This has more info on what Cut (and Duke administrators and deep-pocket donors) have accomplished:

Cutcliffe had a very nice run a role miss but they let him go because they thought they could do better and so far they have not. He is probably one of the more underrated coaches in college football. Ironically, I remember June saying that Duke and SMU were the only two jobs he was interested in leaving Hawaii for
