Im in the category that smu fans need to learn a little bout hoops, as Smerkins suggested. It's pretty naive around here and completely reactionary. I love it here, especially those diehards that were posting during dement/doh/tubbs era, but the influx of excited fball types has given this place a bi polar feel. We're great, we suck. Great win, reality check.

Most fans are overly emotional, after all it is short for the term fannatical. I always try to keep an even keel and that is why I advocated for giving Bennett a sixth season in football, Doherty more time to rehab the position, and am not pressed to get rid of June. I haven't seen anything out of the ordinary in term of the basketball fans. The fact of the matter is that we are greatly transitioning as a program and it is extremely difficutl to have any definitive expectations for this team. Based on our personnell can anyone say that Arkansas, Texas A&M, and Virginia were expected wins or losses? I was hoping we would win them all. Frankly, we have not faced a daunting team this season. We will face several in the AAC. If you honestly expected to lose the three games I mentioned, then you are a loser. If you expected to win all three you are probably setting yourself up for disappointment. The only thing I will say and this applies to all of our fans in all of our sports is to keep an open mind.

BTW hoopmanx, I love you, but if anyone is at times irrational it is you lol!

The brand of basketball that was being played in the time between Sasser and the arrival of LB was so bad that I thought I was watching High School hoops. It actually pained me to watch SMU hoops.

What we are seeing now is so different than anything anyone has seen at Moody for the last decade.

Not surprised at all that many SMU fans have not followed college hoops for years.

Glad to have the great insight on this forum now - from those who are the die hards as well as those outsiders who are now coming here.

What is new this year is that we have numerous opportunities for big wins in our conference play that will have significant NCAA implications. We have not had that since the 90s.

PontKris89 made some great points. De ja vu. No one is here on ponyfans.com to be told "how to be fans". We share a common interest, SMU. Many posters here feel they know more than the next guy and come across as condescending. What is wrong with letting anyone express their opinions and having a discussion without snide remarks and personal attacks? Appreciate the fact that someone else cares for you team. Appreciate other posters viewpoints. You may not agree with them, so be it. They might not agree with your opinions either. Threads are bound to go off topic from time to time, understood. Why can't we try to stay on topic and leave the unnecessary condescending comments at home. Pony Up!

Way to keep it classy EastCoastMustang. I really do not care how long you have doing your act on ponyfans.com (8 1/2 years) To quote one of your previous posts "No one asked". Just as I am sure that you do not care how long I have been reading posts (15+ years). Nobody wants to hear your condescending, pointless shots. Have something to say on a topic. I believe in you. You can do it! Your Mom told me last night that you are actually very articulate. Who knows maybe you do have an educated opinion on a topic? :) Otherwise laugh all you want at people if just if that makes you feel good about yourself. Just seems childish and immature.

ECM was joking dude..... ugh, we go over this a lot, but we really do need a sarcasm font. It gets lost so easily on people all the time.... :?

Gotcha. But just to to let you know we have SMU grads from Duke, Kansas etc on the board. So we know how to keep things in prospective from a basketball standpoint. And just so you know that there are no hard feelings from me, thanks for your supporting the team. :D

Honestly, it's not whether a fan with blended loyalties is more or less of a fan/contributor (not that you're suggesting that's so, 86). As SMU continues to get better the school is going to attract fans that cheer for SMU over a wide range (some a little, some a lot). Every fan that wants to support SMU (whether 1% or 100%) is a win. To think otherwise is dooming SMU to failure as you can't apply a country club mentality to the fan-scape today. Eyeballs and t-shirt sales matter. The pureblood SMU fan will just have to kindly accept the occasional comment about "other schools". Just keep us riff-raff in line.

Well said Cox Mustang Fan! We do have loyal Pony Fans. We need to be appreciative for all our Pony Fans. We will definitely continue to get new fans with the success of our Basketball Team, and hopefully the hiring of a new Football Coach. As has already been discussed, It does not serve much purpose to talk down to new fans, old fans, alums or anyone who wants to support our team. OhioBrownFan, thank you for supporting our team! Your insight is appreciated.

People continue to talk about why SMU does not have a bigger following in Dallas and beyond. We all need to look in the mirror. Let's get rid of the Country Club Mentality. Educate the public on SMU. Invite your friends to games. Educate fellow alums about our program. We all need to do what we can to build our fan base. Pony Up!

I agree and as you said I was not talking about blended loyalties or a country club mentality. Just wanted to point out the we have knowledgeable fans here and are not ignorant. We need as many t-shirt fans as we can get.
