I don't bring Klemm up but every time someone does you belittle him. I know he had a good rapport with the recruiting sites and you hated that because you hate the recruiting sites. That probably irritated you the most. Anyway whatever.PerunaPunch wrote:Seriously, I want to know. Other than as a bullet point to further your little war to denigrate our football program, what other reason could you possibly have to keep bringing up Klemm rather than, say, guys like Reinebold, Palcic, Haering or McKnight? Those guys all left SMU too, and you never bring up their names.

Actually, to be fair, if you read my first post I was actually complimenting him. The fact that Klemm is very successful and could come to work for his old buddy June -- unpaid -- just because he could and because he wanted to get into coaching is fairly flattering.

Sound like it is truce time. Freezing rain will make travel tough Saturday if it happens.

Re: Klemm leaving UCLA for USC?
Wouldn't it be funny if all the schools he recruited at were put on probation for recruiting violations? Better look real close and do background checks closely when a guy is recruiting players better than others on the staff or from other schools.....especially if he has some extra $$$$$ in his back pocket to pay for some meals or clothing for "just trying to help out some guys from the hood". After all, everybody does it...right? Hopefully he is just a great recruiter/salesman and if so good luck to him. Me, if I am the AD I am requesting my guys take lie detector tests. Too much at stake

My gosh! There are a lot of juveniles on here (and you obviously don't know who you are).

The obsession over Klemm is another example of how sad we are as a program. We are still talking about an assistant position coach three years after he left for a much better job because he was the only guy on staff for the past 25 years who thought we could and should be competing for the the best players and made no excuses why we should not be

wow - that may be the post of the decade. So true. So concise. Such an indictment of SMU football and our expectations (or lack thereof).Dwan wrote:The obsession over Klemm is another example of how sad we are as a program. Could you please create a new thread with this post and have everyone look at it? This is the attitude that we should expect from our coaching staffs, be it June's or Chad'sponyinNC wrote:wow - that may be the post of the decade. So true. So concise. Re: Klemm leaving UCLA for USC?
what I love is after Klemm left many SMU fans thought we needed to go replace him with a recruiter-as in singular-as if the model we used here with Klemm as recruiting coordinator handing out half our offers was normal. We need a staff of recruiters-maybe excepting the coordinators who still should have at minimum a supervisory role

His assigned area was California. I guess coach Jones put him there due to his connections there. Made sense.Mustangsabu wrote:What was his history recruiting players in Texas?

That's right. I remember now. And it did make sense, a pity so many of them didn't see the field.

Re: Klemm leaving UCLA for USC?
let's put it this way. If you had a Freshman/Sophomore All Pac 12 team about about 7-8 of the players listed as in contention would be Klemm recruits from Washington St, Cal and UCLA-several of which were SMU commitments

Re: Klemm leaving UCLA for USC?
I don't believe for a moment that Klemm is not the best recruiter or is potentially the best of this lot. But all those guys mentioned have contributed at least as much or more as Klemm TO OUR PROGRAM.couch 'em wrote:Nobody but you, June, and the overhead projector agre with this statement.PerunaPunch wrote:Why do you appreciate Klemm so much over, say, a Jeff Reinebold, Tom Mason, Derrick Odum, Jason Phillips -- all of which (arguably, I'll give that to you) recruited as well as (if not better than) Coach Klemm while he was here.
If our goal is to be Top 25 and compete with our traditional rivals, how many of those calibre kids did Klemm recruit for us before he left for Cali? The question is NOT how many he could get to sign with UCLA, it's how many did he recruit that panned out and performed at SMU. I'll spot you Ben G., and won't even argue over the kid that went to WA St. Name another who has contributed at a high (much less Top 25) level? Anyone?
