The head coach still needs to recruit and build relationships with local high school coaches. Also with this pr war that has seemingly started, June may have burned some fan bridges that he may not have expected to burn.

Again, numbers may seem bad or good just standing there by themselves. They key is to ask "compared to what"? What's did an comparable team do in that time period? Goose ought to know that.

Then you should know his record and understand the teams that most of his wins have come against. You say to quit the crucifixion. He ain't being crucified. He hasn't been exposed to the level of criticism that he should be based on his body of work over the last couple of years, and the slippery position this team is talentwise moving forward.

This article was a complete and utter joke, who was hand fed what to say.

I got a respnse from Rick Gosselin:

SMU wins 27.2 percent of its games over a 19-year span, regularly drawing crowds in the 11,000, 12,000 and 13,000 range. Jones show up and takes SMU to four bowl games in five years and you want to fire him. It's tougher to win and recruit there than you think. If SMU is a destination program for kids that you obviously think it is, the Mustangs would be in the Big 12 -- not the American Athletic Conference. And, yes, SMU has taken strides since Jones took over to ease the academic restrictions on his recruits. That was mentioned in a quote.

 Gosselin really broke out the knee pads for that one. It's clear he doesn't actually follow SMU Football at all.

THAT'S an argument? Are you sure you're a Chicago grad? Sagarin's the best we have to determine what teams were comparable to us since the start of the 2008 season. How good were the teams they beat?

And if those previous coaches had the same advantages that June has, they'd have some bowl wins too. So what makes June so special?

Pointing out how bad we were for 20 years means nothing. It's just a record of what has already happened, the past is done. Just like the stock market, you can't bank on the future just by looking at the squiggly line that has moved up and down. Now, if you want to look at the reasons WHY those changes occur, then you'll get somewhere.

He is comparing apples and oranges. Why are the past 19 years the comparison? Why pick the years with the most restrictions to the years with fewer restrictions? If we are subjectively choosing periods, let's compare the 80's or 30's. The past 19 years shouldn't be the standard to evaluate June.

I'm tired of hearing about bowl games. Average teams go to bowl games. Bowl games are no longer a feather in the cap, especially the ones SMU has played. They once were, but the system is completely different now.

And when Jones loses a player, he can’t plug in a walk-on. Not when walk-ons must pay almost $60,000 annually to attend SMU. Chasing a dream isn’t supposed to be that expensive.

BigDouche. Gosselin is just jealous because SMU (#60) is ranked higher academically than his alma mater Michigan State (#74).

When June came in the first thing he and RGT said was that we are competitive in admissions academically. Before SMU hired a coach they had already dealt with that after firing Bennett.
