Nope. We have a new coach incoming for 2014.

Re: Poll: Will JJ's media war tactics force SMU in a contrac
- This poll is based on a fictional representation that JJ is trying to use the media to garner a better contract.
- I thought many of you said he doesn't want to be here? So which is it? Using "media" to stay, or he wants to leave? Make up your mind.
- Thinking the media has any bearing on these negotiations is essentially implying that the people making these decisions (SMU and JJ's staff) are so naive that blogs on the Internet will have any kind bearing on the outcome.
JJ: But if you've listened to "the media", you'll see I've done a good job and should stay.

JJ doesn't want to be here-he just wants the $$
It makes sense to me.

Jones does not love it here, but likes his 2M and prefers that to the other options. He is definitely feeding the PRINT media (the guy isn't going to blog - he uses an overhead - any questions?). Some of our COC members, our Pres and our AD care what the print media says, so yes it could have an effect. I think June is trying to negotiate a longer fixed contract and is saying he wont sign unless he gets it. Hopefully we have a some pride and some backbone and can tell him to take it or leave it, preferably leave it. We need to throw him a thank you/goodbye party and move on.
Re: Poll: Will JJ's media war tactics force SMU in a contrac
Like I said, this assumption is kin to assuming the CoC and SMU administration have their heads so far up their rears, that they don't know how to make sound business decisions, irrespective of the b.s. "the media" throws at them. They're all professionals, unlike some of the folks on here it seems.
Re: Poll: Will JJ's media war tactics force SMU in a contrac
My gut call:
1. JJ doesn't really want to be here, but doesn't have any place else to go at the moment. Remember he can always leave later for another job... He just needs that job to go to. A coach with a job is more attractive than one who doesn't. If we are honest with ourselves JJ does bring significant value to a distressed football program.
2. SMU is very conscious of what is written in the Dallas Morning News. Having the DMN report that they would be dumb not to re-sign JJ leaves an impression. If they are really thinking of pulling the trigger, this might give them some pause. It can also leave the administration thinking that there is more support for JJ in the city at large than there is.
3. I would be very surprised if JJ didn't receive an offer before he spoke with the media. It might only be a preliminary offer (verbal - with a basic understand of some of the bigger issues). It would be the height of folly to say you received an offer when you haven't. All it would take is an AD leak to totally discredit JJ with the local media. If the AD wanted to drop the ax, he would anonymously leak that this is a total fabrication. Until the situation is totally resolved, it isn't in either party's best interest to discredit each other.

Well looking at the ASU situation the media getting the information out did have an effect on the reaction of the fanbase. So yes the media can be a tool that can have an effect one way or the other especially if you look at that situation..skurtn wrote:

One columnists opinion piece does not represent the entire DMN's opinion. This is not a media war. Yet. And many Dallas media guys have come out against the article (see the ticket on twitter/EJ Holland). This article is turning out extremely positive for us. All signs point to Morris and this guy just opened the door!

I'm still not entirely in agreement with everything stc9 said (e.g. number 2), but, overall, I think both stc9 and SMU 86 make compelling arguments.
thanks

But I don't think Lee Steinberg is going to be on the DFW sports radio programs promoting his client before a deal is done this timeSMU 86 wrote:Well looking at the ASU situation the media getting the information out did have an effect on the reaction of the fanbase. GO MUSTANGS!
Re: Poll: Will JJ's media war tactics force SMU in a contrac
One guy wrote the article and, so far, 47 replied. All 47 replies were against Jones. The media war may backfire.

Even 2 chicks wrote damn good letters in response. Who are Judy and Cheryl? 1 is probably SoccerMom-but we have 2 SMU female fans?
