BSU's Chris Petersen to Washington

Post by Water Pony »

Today we can expect an announcement that the UW Huskies will hire Chris Petersen. Good move for both. Washington will likely flourish with a proven winner. As for Boise State, their program may have crested with the end of the BCS format. MWC winner will not be assured a place at the new play-off table.

USC should have hired him instead of Sark.

Look at the positives, Boise St. won't be what it used to be. Gives us a better chance at getting into the College Football Playoff or the Fiesta/Chick Fil A/Cotton Bowl if we win our conference!

The strongest conference in the Group of Five is the American:

To get a berth into one of the non playoff former BCS bowls (chick fil a, cotton, fiesta), you need to be the conference champion and be ranked higher than any other conference champion from the other 4 conferences (MWC, CUSA, Sun belt, MAC). Since the American is the strongest conference, if we win out the conference, we have a chance to go to one of those bowls since by being in a more prestigious conference your strength of schedule gets you ranked higher.

In other words Boise being down is good for everyone in the American conference.

It also means that teams from the AAC have a better chance of beating up on each other thus pulling everyone's records towards the middle.

True, but the champion would get to go to one of the bowls...and if one of them goes undefeated, like in UCF's case, they could go to the College Football playoff

Peterson was selective in taking another job and I think he will benefit from that. UW fans are now thanking USC for taking Sark off their hands and getting a guy who is a proven winner.

It will be interesting to see how the Broncos do. They have a history of losing coaches and keeping rolling - Nutt, Hawkins, etc.

The champion might get to go to one of the bowls. It all depends on how the champion compares to one from a "weaker" league. And there's no way in Hell a committee rife with P5 interests is going to let a G5 team into the playoff.

Of course, I was talking that in paper, they should be able to go to the playoff. In reality that won't be the case...too much $$$ P5 $$$$ money at stake to let a G5 come in.

Kinda glad they aren't in the AAC honestly.

A coworker of mine said that Peterson made a comment some time ago, indicating that he didn't want to leave Boise until his children graduate from school. Seeing that his son just graduated high school, makes it interesting.

And I agree, Boise has a ton of issues with coaches getting picked from their program. Will be interesting to see how they recover.

Good...another option for June.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
