I can think of several scenarios. One of them might be to silence disgruntled fans.GiddyUp wrote:if he has offer why would you even have to play the media gameStatler wrote:A Very good source says that offer was made early summer. What respect I had for June is quickly dwindling.

I've been otherwise distracted with the weather. What media offensive has June been on?

My take on it is that this is how everyone saves face. Firing him would look bad for both sides. The "offer in hand" was floated out there so it looks like SMU was willing to keep him on. Now JJ can just say he has chosen not to accept and is instead going to retire to Hawaii.

Lets hope ponymom - perhaps a save face article for him

Your scenario makes sense but I have trouble believing that Hal Mumme came here without knowing the score and I don't understand why he would have been interested in a one year gig. By "knowing the score" I mean that it was pretty obvious before the season started that our defense was more than sketchy and our non-conf schedule was brutal. Not a formula for a big season.SMU Pony Mom wrote:My take on it is that this is how everyone saves face. Firing him would look bad for both sides.
