First, let me lead off by saying that June's comments about holding off on signing an extention have to be BS. There is no way he holds "leverage" over the school.
IMHO, he has a staff full out scouts that want players to come to them to be able to evaluate at camps. And they do a great job at that, which has taken us this far as a program. However, to take the program another step, we need to recruit one level better of a player. I personally believe that June sees the solution as improving our facilities, so that more kids would be interested in the school, and therefore, better players will come to our camps.
What I would do instead of guessing at whether or not it is correct, is sit down with Larry Brown. Ask him what has more impact - the facilities (updated Moody, Crum center) or the coaching staff. I would even take it a step further and talk to Art Briles about it.
Based on his response, set aside some money and prioritize.
1) if the answer is coaches, then use the money we would invest in the IPC to invest more money into higher grade assistant coaches, and if June doesn't agree and fully back the plan, then use some of the money to buy him out and replace him.
2) if the answer is facilities, evaluate the stadium and our regular practice field and determine what upgrades need to be done. What has the most impact on the kids - stadium upgrades, practice field upgrades, or an IPC? In my personal opinion, kids get better prepared for the games practicing in real weather conditions. It seems like we could make an arrangement with highland park to use theirs on bad weather days, and spend the money upgrading our day-to-day practice facilities.
If the answer really is the IPC, I would try to figure out how to build a multi-purpose facility that could be used for more than just football practice. There needs to be more value that can be gained from it than that. Hell, how much would it cost to put a roof on Ford compared to a practice facility?
