Burned Redshirts

Post by Rebel10 »

I know the past it seems JJ has burned players redshirts for only a handful of plays per game during the burned redshirt year. I know we spoke about Minor only playing a few plays per game but I believe there were others.

Halverson - Did not see him much.

Darrion Richardson - Did not see him much after he burned his redshirt several games into the season.

Are there any others?

That is one game (whatever your definition of quite a bit is). How many other games did he play (quite a bit) in? What about the other players?

There is not one single player that SMU is recruiting today that should burn a redshirt. Unless there is a chance that he'll go pro after 3/4 years, a 5th year will be > than a true freshman 99.9% of the time. Once SMU starts getting top guys that may not need four years before going pro, fine, burn the redshirt. Until then it's just bad management. If you're thin at a position, that's on you coach.

Wish Pope was back next year. Good thing we traded an impact 5th year player for three plays as a freshman. Well done.
