Wyoming notes

Postby LA_Mustang » Mon Dec 09, 2013 1:16 pm

It is still eleven days until the Wyoming game but here are few notes on UW. Most previews have them picked middle of the pack in a pretty good MWC. They've started the season 7-2 with loses at Ohio St by 15 and at Colorado by 5. All seven wins are all against cupcakes.

Larry Nance Jr. is Wyoming's best player and just like his dad he's long and athletic. He's averaging 13 pts and 9 boards this year. Their two other leading scorers are guards, Riley Grabau and Josh Adams. Grabau is an absolute assassin from long distance, 63% (27 of 43). If he's shooting it's usually a 3. Adams is a slasher and can finish strong at the rim.

Derek Cook Jr. is their big in the middle. Likely matched up with Moreira. He is very efficient from the field with a 71% FG %, averaging 8 pts and 8 boards a game.

Overall we will need to defend the 3 as they shoot a lot of them (16 a game) and shoot them well at 41%. They've averaged 4,700 in attendance for their five home games all against small schools. I expect a nice crowd even with school on break.

Sounds like we have a pretty similar resume to Wyoming with most of their wins against cupcakes and 2 losses to quality opponents away from home. I would like to think that the combination of Yanick and Cannen can match up with Nance's length and athleticism but it sounds like their 3-point shooting is going to give us trouble. For some reason we've had trouble closing out on 3-pointers this season (especially in the UIC game) and shooting 41% on 16 3s a game is no joke.

Should be an interesting game against a quality opponent, and an important one as it is our last game before we have Cincinnati on the road.

We do have a quality win against aTm. But it should be a good game at their place.
