Don't we have to advertise for so many days? I thought that was the "rule" the last go-round...
I could be wrong on this, but I think what you are referring to applies to public schools. That was definitely the case when Fran went to Aggie. Not sure it applies to private universities though.

I remember during the last coaching search there being some SMU policy that requires any job opening to be advertised for a minimum number of days. I'm guessing, if true, it has something to do with EEOC compliance. But I definitely remember the internet gunslingers on here last time saying the minimum day advertising was a requirement of SMU for any position.

Guys, SMU will never fire June Jones (short of some kind of extreme legal issue). The only people who REALLY want him truly gone are us ponyfans. JJ will leave when he wants to. Our "leadership" has given him all the leverage. Sad, but I think this is the reality. He has met the extremely low bar standard SMU has placed on the program. So no "cause" for termination.

Correct, like a Bowling Green maybe.

BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

PoconoPony wrote:I do not think there is any question that JJ will be back next year. He still has one year left on his current contract extension and SMU is not in the position to buy him and his staff out and pay similar salaries to a new staff. I would guess it would take roughly $ 5 million to fire him and cover the bases.
Problem is that we end up with another Doh situation where we stay with the coach too long and lose yet another year fighting back to respectability.
This ^^.

The big question I have is: will he sign an extension? We might not get any news on that for awhile and he will "slow pay" it methinks.

actually I'm taking the fact June isn't going to be in New York as good news and that negotiations are still on-going-in essence that he not yet fully committed. I think under these circustances that he would otherwise show his commitment in New York if negoatiations were finalized

probably the only way you would get jj to n.y. for a mustang club meeting is if he had to go there to get his check.

That's not the correct attitude. We have to start building the culture that you go see your team in the good times and the bad times!

Yes, next year's coach is going to a BCS bowl this year, you do not want to make it public until after it is played!
