World CupAs a relatively new follower of soccer, I'm pumped about the 2014 WC. Just watched the Draw. US got a tough group. Is anyone planning a trip to Brazil?
SMU-12 NCAA appearances, 1 Final Four
2014-15 & 2016-17 AAC Men's Basketball Champs
Re: World CupWe are screwed. Should be fun games to watch, but it would take a papal blessing to get through that group.
Re: World CupHope to go if i can score some tickets beforehand.
Re: World CupYou think it's gonna be alright for Americans down there? I'm not being scaredy cat, but I hear a lot of chatter from travelers (solo, indie types like me) about the deteriorating state of the cities in terms of crime and theft.
Re: World CupLike most of S.A. there is a lot of petty crime. I don't know if Brazil is any worse than most or not. I have traveled all over Peru, Argentina and Ecuador without problem. However, you must always be aware of your surroundings etc. and be alert. Don't come wearing your Rolex and high dollar jewelry (first lesson I learned).
If you really want more info just PM me. I have been here almost 8 years so I can provide some good info. GLTA GO USNMT soccer.
Re: World CupI've always loved World Cup Football. I agree that the USA has a tough schedule with Germany, Portugal and Ghana. I just might make a match or two through someone I know but I don't know yet. I may be in Europe at that time. It's too far away in time for me to decide if I will be able to accept the offer.
Years ago I had a training partner who had played for Spain and one who had played for New Zealand. As an athlete I've met many other athletes through the years. I watched on TV the USA qualify for the World Cup and it was so fun. I'm hoping that they can pull off some upsets!
Re: World CupYeah. Terrible draw for the US. Not impossible if we are as good as we think we are though!
Shake It Off Moody
Re: World CupBetween Klinsmann's history with Germany and USA's history with Ghana, there are some good storylines to follow. And it just so happens that Portugal has the best player in the world playing for them right now.

Re: World CupBarca would have mass riots if that happened. Lionel is one of my favorite players.
Re: World CupWe are toast, unless Portugal plays down to us which is possible and we can overcome our Ghana historical roadblock. Do not see us winning or tieing against Germany.
Re: World CupPortugal are a one man show. I would expect the US to beat them. And Ghana too, though Germany will be a tough ask.
Mustangs Abu!
Re: World CupWish I could figure out a way to attend. I have numerous first cousins and their families who were born and raised in Brazil and still live there. Very cool people. My aunt and her husband were Presbyterian missionaries in Brazil from the late 40's until they passed on several years ago. their family married well, are well educated, have meaningful jobs and overall have a wonderful life in Brazil as far as I can tell.
Re: World CupYeah hoping that we have improved as much as we think since the last Ghana match. I'm not sure about Portugal, but you guys know a bit more than me and now I have a glimmer of hope. Germany would take a miracle, but?
Re: World CupMy friend booked the trip in 2011 with the American Outlaws, the American supporter group. $5k for travel to Brazil, to all of the games, hotel, security, tickets, etc.
