Actually, the way SMU handled hiring Jones was fantastic.

I would say the last three coaching hires were considered pretty strong at the time - Doh, Jones, and Brown.

So, I at least have some faith that the school is going to go grab a really good coach if the opportunity arises.

JJ's system is exposed when it goes against the Texas Techs, the Baylors, the A&Ms, the TCUs - sorta like when he played Georgia in the Sugar Bowl.
He evidently doesn't think he signed up for that.

It's not JJ's system that's being exposed. It's the enormous talent gap between the P5 and the rest. See what's happened to TCU as evidence.

This is the response I got from other AAC fans on a different board (they make good points):

*Why are you scheduling OOC like that? I presume you're getting some home games from A&M and Baylor on that, but is losing really going to bring in the fans just to see the old SWC teams? I think I'd go patsy on the scheduling, since you'll always have TCU on there, and try to go at least 3-1 if not 4-0 to get a good start to the season and build up some momentum.

* I think winning will help your season long attendance more than a one game spike from A&M. I know easier OOC will certainly make getting bowl qualified much easier and thus keep interest stronger.

These are fans of UCF by the way. The same team that is going to a BCS bowl and has a legit shot at moving on to the B12.

If JJ would have done his job of recruiting et al. our scheduling wouldn't be an issue.

We've tried the patsies before & NO ONE EVER COMES TO THE GAMES!!! Weak argument.
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

UCF doesn't have a huge attendance problem like we do so they can schedule Tomato Can U and have more than 10K people show up. As for the Big 12, they have no shot unless the conference wants to give out millions in welfare to a school on a island that's 3rd banana in their own city.

To be fair, TCU beat some P5 schools while they were not P5.

That's true. But, man, that move has been pretty damning.

Wasn't his system billed as an equalizer?

I could be wrong but I think the Pachall situation really hurt them the most for the past two seasons imo.

They are right. Take a look at TCU's OOC schedule since 2000. They never scheduled Big 12 teams to get their butts kicked. They went with OOC opponents from other conferences as well as 1 P5 opponent. It took them 10 years to get a Rose Bowl. It takes time, hard work and wins to get 45,000 people into your stadium. I think it is better to go with the easier OOC scheduling: TCU as the only P5/Big 12 team, FCS opponent (maybe start a series with Stephen F Austin), UNT, and I would start a series with Texas State or UTSA. Keep it local and don't schedule P5 schools from the Big 12/SEC. We only get a one game spike and it doesn't help build our program's reputation for winning. Make a new policy in that we will only play Big 12/SEC schools when we join a P5 conference.
Let's work on ourselves, on our recruiting and on growing the fan base/TV ratings.
