Re: Baker Mayfield
Interesting.
But i would hope that NB is the man for the future. He had a nice last game and it's about time a QB in the program succeeded.

Re: Baker Mayfield
We should be reaching out to this kid! Maybe have Garrett Gilbert talk to him? They are from the same HS after all...

Never stop at one QB... you have to have multiple capable QBs on the roster. And Burcham already has a history with a knee injury and has a relatively thin frame.
This would be a really nice transfer to pick up. He would have to sit out a year for transfer... so he would be a year behind Burcham I think.

Re: Baker Mayfield
if this kid had put up these stats (see link) at Tyler JC, schools would be all over him. He's proven he can play at the higher Division 1A level

Re: Baker Mayfield
I think this is a great idea. What I saw from Mayfield throughout the year was his ability to scramble and pick up first downs on busted plays. Even though NB played well against UCF, his lack of mobility and athleticism in general really showed. He is slow and not thick enough to break arm tackles of D-linemen to get out of trouble.
As a general trend in college FB offenses that throw the ball a ton you need a mobile QB to really thrive and take it to the next level. GG didn't start playing lights out until midway through the season last year because IMO he started running more and extending drives with his legs.
Regardless, Mayfield or not, it would be nice to get a few QB's who can sling it and have the athleticism to run for first downs when needed.

And then he started playing good teams...

Rumors have him looking at UNT, but he was teammates and good friends with Colin LaGasse at LT

Re: Baker Mayfield
SMU is the perfect program for him to get a head start. He will have 3 years eligibility and get a degree from a nationally ranked university.
June should be calling this kid like right now!
Re: Baker Mayfield
As a walk on would he have to sit out a year?
Re: Baker Mayfield
Given that he was a walk on, why does Texas Tech have the right to block *any* offers he may receive?

Does seem like a reasonable question. Not questioning whether that is the rule, just seems more ridiculous than the usual transfer rules.
