From the SMU athletic department:
DALLAS (SMU) --- Senior quarterback Tony Eckert hit nine-of-18 passes for 79 yards and one touchdown in the Mustangs' scrimmage at Gerald J. Ford Stadium on Saturday. Fellow signal caller, senior Jerad Romo, hit on six-of-eight throws for 67 yards on the evening. Junior receiver Reynaldo Pellerin made a one-handed grad on the Eckert scoring toss.
Sophomore running back Richuel Massey led in attempts from the backfield, rushing for 48 yards on 11 carries. Cedrick Dorsey, also a second-year rusher, averaged 11.3 yards by gaining 68 yards on six attempts. Dorsey had the longest play of the night with a 39-yard scamper down the right side of the field. Fred Turner added 16 yards on five carries and DeMyron Martin contributed 19 yards on five rushes.
Ryan Kennedy and Bobby Chase were the targets of choice with four catches each. Kennedy, a junior tight end, had 25 yards and Chase, a junior receiver, hauled in 36 yards worth of receptions. Sophomore Tony Hawkins made three grabs for 21 yards and junior Jay'Mond Cleveland had a pair of catches for 18 yards. Senior Chris Foster had the second longest reception, gaining 20 yards on his lone opportunity.
Kickers Ryan Mentzel and Brayden Harris also scored. Mentzel, a senior hit field goals of 40 and 18-yards while Harris, a freshman, nailed one from 30 yards out.
