And then there is the idea that it is harder to support SMU football if they "keep" June than it was when we were "keeping" Cavan or Bennett is even more unbelievable. Whatever happens, the SMU football program will be trying to win. If June stays and gets his way and they extract themselves from some of the OOC schedule and get an easier schedule, that won't be the worst thing.
I think too many people on here are too close to the situation. The likes of Gosselin are looking at this in some ways much more objectively. June's tenure has not been all we hoped for, but look at the stats. Pretty much every record in SMU history is held by a JJ team.
I get what you're saying and I respect the fact that you're sticking to your guns but you just refuse to accept or see the major problem. JJ and this staff either refuse to recruit or are unable to recruit and that is EVERYTHING! in college football, I don't know how many times it has to be said. Everything JJ does well and everything he has done for SMU is trumped by that one simple fact. See Texas. Mack was everything for UT and Austin for a decade but his inability to recruit a top level QB in the last few years cost him his job. It doesn't mean Mack is a bad coach or that UT doesn't appreciate what he did, just like JJ here, but that university understands what it takes. It's the reality of big-time college football. If we retain JJ it very well could be fatal. To suggest otherwise is simply ignoring the facts. And to suggest that an IPF is going to magically make everything right is covering up what this program is truly missing - a bulldog. A coach and a staff that eats, drinks and sleeps SMU football. A staff that is everywhere selling SMU 24/7. A staff that never stops. A staff that is never satisfied. See Gary Patterson and the TCU staff. Personally, I believe we are already too late. TCU figured it out at the right time and got a seat but our lackadaisical attitude towards building a BCS program has finally cost us, IMHO.
It's always the "end of the world" Life goes on...new contract negotiations will happen in 10 years and we have to be ready by then...and by ready it means our facilities must be on par with Big 12, have 30k people at our games, 7 seasons of 9+ wins, a BCS bowl or appearance and then we might get a shot at the big time.

I would like to know how many people really think this is the case.
Hey Grant- great idea for a poll.

I do not do polls, I could not even find the tweet you said Sims sent saying he was transferring.

It doesn't matter. I don't know or really care what JJ's intentions are. We shouldn't care. It is obvious what needs to be done and the University needs to do it. The fact that this is dragging on is proof that we really have no intentions of being committed to big-time college football.

And the attitude of the admin will show up next season when there about 5k fans at the games. I also suspect that one third or more of the older, hard core, long time supporters of the program will go away as well.

Again, I ask you:
Why care about a program that clearly doesn't care about you?

A lot of the guys I played with don't come anymore. I feel like I come out of guilt more than anything else. I feel I owe it the guys who've come after me to be there. But if someone like me has to force himself to go to the games, there is no way this program is gaining any fans with June. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

35,
RGT/Hart/CoC know this and still don't care. Football is on its last legs.

Attendance actuallty has been up 20 - 25% under JJ, but is probably down some this year because of the Ice Bowl, and Montana St. instead of Baylor switcheroo.
As for "football is on it's last legs", I've been hearing that every down year since the 70s when I was in school.
May the forth be with us.

35- thank you for your prior support. Now it is time to stand up and say 'count me out' until we have a new coach.

The positive is that I think there seem to be enough of us peons that don't write the million dollar checks that are either boycotting the program or abandoning it that the blue hairs and RGT/Hart will have to take notice. With the abysmal recruiting over the past few years we are about to get exposed starting next year. There will be no Gilbert to hide our warts. You will see next year just how low this thing has fallen. Well, that's if you are one of the 2K in attendance.

The only way a change can be pushed is for rgt to receive a lot of emails, phone calls etc. stating that they are finished donating to the school, the MC and buying season tickets until there is a change made. You have to hit rgt in the place it hurts most- the pocketbook. There are a lot of fans who say 'I don't want jj here but I will support the team'. Support them for what? another losing season. This is exactly what rgt relies on- fans that are unhappy but still give a lot of $$ to the school because that allows him to do as he pleases and ignore the fan base.
