TCU routinely outrecruited BCS schools for between 60-75% of their recruits from 1998-2010. That's what it is going to take to start gaining ground. I think the best way to do it-as I've always said is to concentrate most of your resources-not all but most- in North Texas and do the best job of any staff in Texas on those kids. Hire assistants who know this area and the Coaches. All it takes is an afternoon drive and they can be back in bed by Nitetime. Unlike recruiters at many schools we are sitting on a goldmine in our backyard but our coaches are not developing the relations they need with their neighbors. There is really no logical reason or acceptable excuse we can't work DFW harder than any program

The author never at any point said that he did not know anything about recruiting. He said that he does not subscribe to the pay cites.

Ask him how is USF doing it?

That tells me USF has some outstanding recruiters on its staff, nothing more. We will see if that translates to improved results for them on the field.

Which means he knows jack about SMU FB or BB recruiting. Again, he hasn't read the hundreds of stories and quotes from recruits and coaches in both FB and BB recruiting

Why can't this be done? Serious question. I don't get it. :|

Most of us have all been advocating this for years now. The reason it doesn't get done (note that I did not say it can't be done, becuase it CAN!) is because Jones hires buddies - not staffers. If he took the LB approach, he would have hired local HS coaches or coordinators at other Texas colleges. It really is that easy.

It means it can be done at SMU, remember you asked a question about recruiting. Obviously you have been feed a bunch of talking points by the hard core JJ supporters and may have become one. You even have the anti Klemm talking points down as well. Next thing you know this guy will be saying how Gabe Marks didn't pass the NCAA clearinghouse.

Well, if that is the case then Coach Jones' buddies are not really his friends. If they were his friends than they would be doing what alot have been advocating for years now and helping their friend succeed in his job. Maybe Coach Jones needs to reevaluate his "friends".

Stallion, maybe we went down the wrong path here. My intent in starting this thread was not to brag about how much I know about recruiting without reading the pay sites. I form my opinion based on what I read here on PonyFans and the many discussions I have with fellow SMU fans about the state of our program.

I am generally in agreement with you that our coaching staff deserves a failing grade for their ability to build and develop relationships with DFW area coaches and recruits.

I was pointing out that even if those relationships were better, there is still work to be done to overcome the stigma and stereotypes attached to SMU. I am hopeful that the next coaching staff will be better at this, but there are no guarantees.

Who said anything about guarantees? Sounds like fear tactic talk to some degree. So we should just be happy with what we have a not try.

Wow, jump to conclusions much?

In the limited amount of time I've been on this thread, when have I expressed support for JJ?

I made one point about Klemm in my original post and that was only to point out that when he left, we lost the players he had recruited. He was a great recruiter when he was here. That isn't pro-Klemm or anti-Klemm.

Moving on...

I can crap in a box and mark it guaranteed. I have the time.

But for your companies sake, for your daughters sake - why not buy a quality product from Callahan Autoparts.

Here's the way I see it, Ted. Guy puts a fancy guarantee on a box 'cause he wants you to feel all warm and toasty inside.
