Texas Tech QB Transfers to Sam Houston State
SHSU now has two former Big 12 QBs on its roster: starter Noah Allen (Oklahoma) and recent transfer Phillip Daugherty (Texas Tech). Tech fans are wondering if they might see the former Red Raider on the field against them on Sept. 17 in Lubbock. Here's a news item about Daugherty:
Monday was a moving day for the Texas Tech football team. Senior tight end Bristol Olomua moved back into the Red Raiders' plans, and sophomore quarterback Phillip Daugherty moved on.
Olomua was cleared to play this season when the NCAA approved a waiver on his behalf.
Daugherty, a once-heralded recruit who never got to play, left the team to pursue a transfer.
While Cody Hodges and Graham Harrell were battling for the No. 1 quarterback job during the first week of preseason practice, Daugherty was still dueling with Ryan Rowland for No.3.
"Long story short, we talked (Sunday) night and he wants to get on the field,'' Tech coach Mike Leach said after Monday's workout. "He's at that point where he's got three years left to play, where if he's going to make a move, this is when he needs to make it.''
Leach declined to discuss what schools Daugherty might have on his list, but he said he wished him well.
Here's the Sam Houston State roster showing Daugherty at #16.

Because throwing from your knees is a good skill, just like Kyle BollerDixieTech wrote:This kid will be king of the Southland conference imo. He's 6'4" like 230 and can throw it 80 yards on his knees according to folks around the program. He couldn't master our offense, but he'll be a man amongst boys for Sam Houston. wish him well.
